As Ayn Rand said: "production is life"
Make the non-productive get producing jobs; tax revenues go up, costs of government goes down; life is renewed again.

The one thing that is important in a President is the ability to cheer lead the American people. That's what a President is. Now we need a cheerleader who will take us back to the Constitution. Newt is the ONLY politician who puts his promises in writing and has delivered on all of his promises in the past. Let him shake up the process, The American people are ready!

Michael: You seem to have rose colored glasses re: Woodstock, perhaps it was the puff pieces the press put out during those times?
Read the book, "Return of the Primitive, The New Left, the Anti-Industrial Revolution" for the best insight on that event in history.

There is a reason that "progressive collectivists" lie, cheat, steal, kill to achieve their goals, but it has nothing to do with atheism. Saying that I am an atheist only tells what I don't believe in. It is not a descriptor. If you have ever wondered why the Christian right is ineffective against the progressives, one only need understand that you Christians cannot stand up to their moral code without a fundamental examination of your most cherished beliefs. The progressives' moral code has only one tenet; that man must sacrifice himself for his fellow man. In a word, Altruism. Since you equate Charity with Altruism, you are unwilling to reject their moral code.
It took one Jewish, Russian immigrant - Ayn Rand - to point out the fallacies of Altruism, and to craft a moral code for rational men: it embodies the virtues of Independence, Rationality, Integrity, Honesty, Justice, Productiveness and Pride. Look it up sometime, it puts the 10 commandments, the Golden Rule and every other previous moral code to shame. The concepts of Integrity and Honesty embodies far more than the "thou shalt not Lie" commandment.
In addition, Ayn Rand extolled the rightness of limited Constitutional government, lassez-faire Capitalism, freedom for all people, property rights and VOLUNTARY charity. These POLITICAL concepts can only be upheld when they have a proper philosophical foundation, including a proper moral foundation. Your Christian moral code falls far short. The progressives have been indoctrinating our young people for the past 100 years, and your philosophical beliefs are inadequate to stop the slide into Communism. Reexamine your philosophical beliefs, if you wish to fight the progressives!

Natural law is not God's law, and God's law is not Natural law no matter how many times Sean Hannity repeats the mantra.
A moral code handed down from a mystical being? How rational is that? Thou shalt not kill? What if I kill in order to protect my life? You've heard of the right to self defense, haven't you? How about if you kill to protect your property? Stealing is wrong under any circumstances, but protecting your property is protecting your life. You cannot exist without property, and you paid with your life to acquire it.
If you want to read a rational moral code, reread Galt's speech in "Atlas Shrugged", it is embedded in it. A moral code tied to the laws of existence and consciousness, not a capricious mystical moral code. A code based on Natural law. A finer set of moral precepts have I never found.
Atheists believe in limited government too! Yes, you can be an Atheist and still believe in limited government, the family and all libertarian values. You better get used to it. And the only way limited government will come about is converting Liberals to Libertarians. It is actually easy to do, I should know; I was one and I do it all the time. It is easy because they are half way there already. And the hard core Liberals (read Socialist or Communist) are actually few and far between. As Ayn Rand said, you will be amazed and how small and insignificant an enemy we really have. (paraphrased)
Most libertarians are not anarchists. But the government's role should be strictly limited to preventing the use of force and fraud between men. At the federal level, this means only protecting our borders with the military and international crime police; and protecting our natural rights via the upper courts. At the state level, it means only the lower courts and police powers to protect us from individuals that do us harm. No regulators to destroy our businesses, no unlimited taxing powers, etc.
Try getting a bureaucrat arrested for overzealously doing his job, yet violating a law. It just doesn't happen. I know.
I am against abortion, but it is an issue with legitimate arguments on both sides, and should be left up to the states.
I am against drug use (our brains are our only means of survival) but empowering a nazi-like DEA is worse. And the issue there is whether someone who rots their brains out with drugs should have any benefits from the state. Let the private charities do the charity work. Remember Prohibition and the rise of the mafia? Well, we are seeing that now, and where is the rational people to overturn the attempts at morality?
Demint is wrong and is playing to the minority conservatives. If you think your fiscal conservatism will win you elections, try passing a few of your moral laws and see what happens to your "conservative" majority. You only just barely have me on board, and I don't trust conservatives with moral leadership nor fiscal conservative leadership. This is a major slip-up on his part.
