Great review - love the theory.

I have always considered this a great war movie from the psychological aspect - nothing about this movie, the original or redux, is "normal" in the sense of war movies over the years. that is what I like about it - the surreal aspect of the journey.'

I do miss the original ending that rolled during the credits: the destruction of the temple. It gave a a sense of closure - Willard phoned in the airstrike and returned to the present.
Redux left you wondering what ultimately happened to Willard and the surfer. Were they forever changed by their experience, or was this a temporary journey of insanity?

Great comments everyone.

Love your reply!
I believe this book should be taught in high school as the "great American novel".
For me, the true heroines of the book are Mammy (who always spoke her mind) - a very smart woman, and Melanie, who was the epitome of a great lady - she never lowered her standards and lived a Christian life.
Sometimes the obvious lessons aren't the truisms.

It seems to me that this is a "macaca" moment for some and they do not like it when the shoe is on the other foot.

My first job was the concession counter at our local movie house . My dad, a WWII veteran who served in both the European and Pacific theaters, would come early to drive me home so he could sit and watch M*A*S*H* during its run. it was the only time I saw my father laugh about war.
