I have an iPhone 3GS purchased in France. It's unlocked and running a jailbroken 4.3.3. I've tried to update to IOS 5 by creating a custom ipsw and restoring through iTunes (latest version), but I get the ineligibility message. Is this because the phone was bought in France? It's running on an ATT SIM right now.

I also have a U.S. iPhone 4, locked to ATT and running a jailbroken 4.3.3. I can't figure out the steps to get a jailbroken iOS 5. When I try restoring with the custom ipsw, as above, I get the ineligible message. I must be doing the same thing wrong on both. I found PWNGE tool easier than RedSnow because of its graphics and it led you step by step. I can't find instructions specific to RedSnow.

Dear Oscarkb, Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, when I try to restore with the custom IPSW, iTunes verifies with Apple and gives me a message saying my phone is not eligible for this firmware. My bootrom is 05.13.04. Do you know if it would work with an older version of iTunes? I don't want to lose the unlock, but to use the MobileMe Calendar I need OS 4.1 on my 3GS.

How far can I update w. jailbreak and still keep my unlock? I tried to go to 4.1 but iTunes verifies w. Apple and rejects my attempt to restore w. the Custom IPSW.

Do I need to get an old version of iTunes? Do I need to do a tethered pwnge restore?
