Actually, one need make no comment about the content of the billboard to show the behavior of those making the threats are violating the very american values of private property and freedom of speech. As a so-called atheist, I can tell you this: Had the sign read "Believe in God? You Are Not Alone.", very few if any would have taken notice, there would be no threats against those who posted it AND, although I would be somewhat irritated at yet another advertisement for what I believe is an irrational belief system, the sign is posted on private property and is an act of free speech and really not within my personal authority to control. In other words, as an atheist I would have respect for private property and freedom of speech.

Those making threats, besides being immature children, are also breaking the law. Such threats are NOT how we in the United States choose to settle disputes. The RIGHT and rational response to a view you disagree with is to respectfully and peacefully offer a view of your own.

In truth, "atheism", at least in my personal view, is primarily against irrational beliefs. In the end, it doesn't really matter the nature of the irrational belief, only that it is irrational and thus out of sync with what is genuinely factual and logically-consistent. I value accurate observation and logically-consistent reason, so, once I recognize it as such, I reject any belief that appears to be outside of those parameters. I have no doubt other "atheists" also reject claims of the existence of "bigfoot", "the loch ness monster", "alien abduction", "santa claus", "the tooth fairy", etc. Followers of monotheistic religions take particular exception to "atheists" but, as a so-called atheist, I am at least one person who can tell you my rejection of irrationality isn't specifically targeted at monotheism. Monotheistic beliefs just happen to be on the list. I believe irrationality is unhealthy wherever it is found. It's not about "god" believers specifically.

Immature persons in Cincinnati ought to be reminded that their sort of behavior is NOT how disagreements are resolved in anything resembling a civilization, NOT how disagreements are resolved in the United States and, not how the more mature persons of Cincinnati choose to resolve disagreements in Cincinnati. Their behavior might be seen as shameful but we must be reminded that theism is rejected by so-called atheists because it is ultimately an irrational worldview. It stands to reason that if you accept an irrational worldview, you either began as an irrational person OR you will become an irrational person the longer you accept that irrational worldview.

It ought to come as no surprise that the less stable minds among those who call themselves christian, jew or muslim or whatever monotheistic religion you wish to name would behave in this way. In any event, this billboard is a message from adults to other adults. The children of Cincinnati ought to learn their place and seek professional help with their mental dysfunctions.

I might suggest a statement that appears missing - NATURALIST - HANSSERS affirm that "nature" is synonymous with "exists" in that nature is all that exists, all that ever has, and all that ever will exist.

Some positive statement regarding the nature of reality or "all that exists" must be made which provides the basis for all other positive statements. More clearly, one needs a positive metaphysical statement that supports one's positive statements regarding epistemology (the nature of knowledge), ethics (the nature of values), politics (the nature of human relationships) and aesthetics (the nature of beauty and ugliness). Granted, in the seven statements there are hints as to one's position in these categories, however, in the least, a clear statement regarding one's belief on the nature of reality must set the stage for the rest.

For secular humanist atheist ethical rationalist sceptics there is a very clear difference between their answer as to the basic nature of reality and the answer of theists. That basic difference sets the stage for all other disagreements.

Just a thought.
