A monopoly of the best military equipment and WMD has always been a goal of imperialism since the beginning. The English poet Belloc best expressed this mentality when he wrote: “Whatever happens we have got, The Maxim gun, and they have not”. I would not be surprised if Israel is worried about what Hezbollah might or might not have; settler and expansionist Israel has to make sure that it is the only one with a Maxim gun. Judging from the extremes they go to keep Palestinians unarmed and dependent on rocks and spit for resistance weapons it should be expected that Israel takes that same view for everyone else in the region. When I decided to become a socialist at 17 years of age the first thing I learned was to never take imperialist propaganda at face value because war mongers will use pretexts for whatever they already wanted to do and direct it to whoever will believe them. There is no chess game anywhere; there are the imperialists and their allies and then there is everyone else.http://monthlyreview.org/0307tabb.htm

The Greek working class is on the move! I hope they are not sold out by their leadership.

Con't

2)Israeli war planners also seem to have convinced themselves that Iran has limited options as a response to an attack. So they believe that Iran can only respond through a “proxy” in Lebanon. Those are the two reasons I think they will attack Lebanon. As for Iran, the fact that Israel has used diplomacy to try and break some of Iran’s trade deals and investment agreements with other nations shows that Israel is interested in far more than Iran’s nuclear technology. They seem to be worried about Iran’s entire economic capacity. If it is Israel’s wish to make Iran more like a 1980’s Iran then they are wishing for something that will not happen unless by a extended air strikes/ cruise missiles campaign like Iraq suffered in Gulf War I. Needless to say that Iran can defend itself.

“There will be a war of aggression against Lebanon this summer. All the signs seem to point to it, not to mention the slow methodic march towards a confrontation with Iran.”

I think you are right as all the evidence points in that direction. I also think that the “slow methodic march” to war with Iran is actually connected to Israel’s obvious preparation for another war in Lebanon. Two things seem clear:

1)Israel wants to re-establish in the Arab mind (and the Persian) that they are hegemonic, undefeatable, and superior; that the settler state is permanent, and resistance is futile. After the defeat of the Israel military in Lebanon in ’06 (defeat being defined as the military plans of the aggressor not being accomplished due to the military resistance of the attacked) this seems to be high on the agenda of Israel’s to do list. They did an airstrike on Syria some time ago and proclaimed that this “put all doubts to rest” about it military invincibility but nobody bought it, Arabs are still not afraid. Israel needs to devastate Lebanon in order to get the psychological effect they want.

What better way to honor our New Afrikan hero than by continuing the struggle for human rights and dignity?

The Jewish revolutionary tradition returns! This is exciting and a welcome development. Good luck to you all. You made it clear that you are oriented to winning over Jews from Zionism but please keep the rest of us posted from time to time. In Solidarity.

Much solidarity to your struggle and the best of luck, it seems that you are in a very complex situation that is undergoing rapid development. Popular movements being tied down by corrupt middle class and upper class “leaders” is a common feature around the globe. As you and Giles have demonstrated it is the same in Thailand. Hopefully the Thai misleaders will be pushed aside by the masses. They look like they want real change.

Good question Mr. Weisbrot, it is clear from your article that the way the capitalists spell success is “anything necessary so long as the workers pay for it.” It is also clear that the best way for Greek and Latvian workers to avoid “internal devaluation” is probably to rebel like the Argentineans had to.

Then it is clear that what the imperialists want to do is either break Iran’s economic development (which is a standing practice of imperialists—to actually block economic development and promote dependence and hegemony) or to force them into a war where they can inflict major damage (of course anyone with a brain knows Iranians are not punks and will respond to an attack). Besides backfiring it will kill who knows how many people for the sake of capitalist war profiteers and right-wing Zionist expansionists. We should not wait until the moment they start positioning soldiers and ships to attack to start opposing war, we should oppose it right now when they are still talking about “engaging,” “aggressive diplomacy,” and sanctions! Hell, it is clear where they are going; what their intentions are (and even if we were wrong it would be a good exercise in trying to build anti-imperialist sentiments and consciousness in the age of Obama anyway). We the people of the world are the ones that should be applying the sanctions, against Israel and against war profiteers like Bechtel, Halliburton, Blackwater (Xe or whatever the hell they call themselves now) Kellogg-Brown and the rest. Hands off Iran!
