As a Tennessee teacher, I am completely appalled by this bill. How am I supposed to stop bullying if I'm not allowed to protect kids who are being bullied because they are, or are perceived to be, gay? Even though I teach in an elementary school, the subject HAS come up. It has come up completely outside of the curriculum, but in a way that as a teacher and, more importantly, as a human being I could not just ignore. A girl cried in my class because her boyfriend had broken up with her. He told her he was breaking up with her because he was gay. I felt I should console her, and I did. But at the same time I told her that she couldn't have done anything to change it, and that she would feel better after a while. These are 5th graders. If these idiot Republicans think it's not an issue, or that these kids are "too young to know", they're not just stupid. They are dangerously stupid.
Don't hold your breath. The far religious right has Bill Haslam's balls firmly tucked and zipped up in their purses.
You are so wrong about Newt. He did not resign in shame. He has no shame, so how could he resign in it? Did he borrow someone else's shame? Maybe Calista let him borrow some...
Creationism is unscientific and has no place in a science classroom. Maybe social studies class, but not science. Want creationism? Go to a religious school.
Libtards... Yes you are very skilled at debate. This is why you guys lost and will continue to lose. Keep it up!
Warrior princess, LOL! Well at least you got the princess part right.
We should also add to this her very short record of public service. While Obama had decades of public office and community service, Palin... What has she done? Basically, she's an insult to all women in public office, a princess with a pathological need for attention. Not presidential material. Well... MAYBE she could be president of the Junior League (and this is not meant as an insult to the Junior League by any means!)
Katie, I too know many people who have special needs children and never would have considered abortion. A good friend ended up having a perfectly normal son, but when she was pregnant they thought he might have Downs. They offered her the choice (I am 101% sure Palin's docs offered and informed her of the choice as well), and she declined. The doc left it at that. What I resent is this meme that Palin deserves some kind of medal for having the child when women of far lesser means, who don't have Palin's cult worshipers to defend them do this every day. And to add insult to this, Palin would deny these women on the same journey any sort of public assistance.
But you have to remember that Republicans want choices and rights for themselves that they deny everyone else. This goes for everything from reproductive choices, to extramarital affairs, to abuse of government finds (I've got Sanford coming to mind here). The religious Christo-fascists are a real problem. They believe themselves to be chosen by God and above the law and that's really dangerous. Thankfully for all of us normal people, and despite this thread, the Palindrones are a tiny minority. I think Obama would have won even if Palin had not been the VP nominee. She just insured that he won by a landslide. So I guess we can thank her for that.
It's kind of sad to see someone so dense as Ziegler getting an audience. Anyone who thinks Obama is a socialist does not know what a socialist is. Those of us that paid attention in high school world history 101 know that these people obsessed with Obama's non-existent socialism are full of it. Get some education people. You are embarrassing yourselves AND America.
