This is what happens when you basically bring back the same lineup from last year. A lineup, that while decent statistically showed little knack for getting hits when it counted. I'm not saying Manny should have been signed, but there were moves out there that would have changed the makeup of the lineup and maybe even challenge some these guys. I brought this up in the offseason and I remember being told to shut up because the offense was like 3rd in runs or something. My reply was, how many runs did they score in September? I don't remember hearing anything after that.
I think that having a memorial to Jackie is fine, the Orioles have a statue of Babe Ruth at Camden Yards because he grew up right across the street. However, I kind of think that making it the centerpiece of the park could be a little short sighted. It's almost like they're trying too hard to memorialize the man-which in this day and age can be construed by some as contrived and politically correct.
These are all great ideas. Not new ones mind you, but still great.
I like the new system. It's much cleaner than the old one and loads a lot quicker.
I don't have a problem getting called out for what I say. I just wanted to know what he took such umbrage with. Truthfully, I didn't expect the Mike Nichols jihad to take much issue with how I characterized his statement. I figured at the most someone would defend his statement (they didn't) and that it might produce real discussion. Instead it devolved into a whiny "don't call him that" back and forth. I'll definitely watch how I characterize things in the future, because truthfully I don't come here to snipe at folks, I come here to talk about the Mets......who right now I find really really lousy.
Yeah. I found it idiotic and I gave reasons why. Why else do I need to justify it? I'm sorry, is Mike Nichols an untouchable deity on this blog? I mean I didn't call him an idiot, I called his comment idiotic. I happen to like his work for the most part but I took issue with that statement. That's what happens on here, people make comments and then other people make comments based on what they read . Welcome to the world of blogging.
Brilliant statement... Care to expound or do you just deliver one liners?
I'm not talking about Matt, I'm talking about Mike Nichols' statement about how it doesn't bother him that Citi isn't "Met-centric" enough. I found it ridiculous, and I was expressing MY OPINION.
Mike, your comment about not being concerned because there isn't enough Mets stuff at Citi is completely idiotic. When you move into a new home, don't you put up old pictures? Or do you just keep the walls clear until you take new ones? Under your logic, they shouldn't have brought over anything commemorating the past World Series victories since they didn't happen at Citi and we're only focused on "creating new memories". C'mon man. When this team is 20 games under .500 (hypothetically speaking of course), people are going to want to remember the good times.
I haven't been to the new stadium and quite honestly I think some of these complaints are just people piling on, but I don't think it's unfair for people to want more of a connection to the past of their favorite team.
They shouldn't need to rely on a manager. There should be somebody in the clubhouse that would do that. Maybe it'll be Sheffield. Who knows? It won't be David Wright, that's for sure.
