Metsfan, I was thinking the exact same thing in recent days, the bottom of the lineup has just been rally killing, game in, game out! The other things of concern a) Reyes slow start, b) Wright's pilling up of K's in key situations and most of them looking! If atleast one of those two doesn't get it going soon, we are in for a long season!
Some tough choices there to be sure! But I would have to go with Roy Halladay!
You don't make a 5 milion season long commitment to any pitcher (let alone the aging Pedro) based on the premise that Pelfey might miss one start! Furthermore Figs would probably get the call anyway, and he is pitching well in AAA!
Rob, I went back and reread the blog, I can kinda see where it says that, but man it's very poorly worded for a guy who makes a living writing for a major paper! After I read it the third time it was more confusing than the first! Anyway it's good to see that Sheffield will not be replacing only Church, because Church does deserve better, especially with the way he's produced thus far!
That's what I read in Adam's blog about 15 minutes ago.
I gotta agree with you there! I think this is definetly the right move, but I still don't see Sheffield displacing Murphy on an anywhere near permenant basis!
FYI, .....per Adam Rubins blog, apparently Jerry has had a serious change of course! The plan now is to start Sheffield no earlier than Friday with Murphy and not Church sitting!

ya gotta love it! Atta boy JJ!
The reason has nothing to do with Church, and even less to do with Citifield! They have to A) get Sheffield some back to back AB's against MLB pitchers in a game situation so he can get his timing, otherwise he's going to be pretty much worthless as a PH! ...B) Sheffield has just recently gotten into outfield playing shape, the Mets certainly aren't going to put him in with Santana pitching, Yesterday was opening day so of course Church is going to start ( as he should). Not too mention that the Mets won't face a lefty for atleast a week and a half plus! I don't think it makes sense to wait that long to see what they have in Sheffield! Is it an optimum situtation for his first game? No, but you have to get him some meaningfull, consecutive at bats other wise they may as well have kept Anderson, because that's about how Sheff will be hitting without live practice!
