So, we decided we needed to see what we could do to help this person.
And, I'm curious why you think this should fall on the church? that the blame would lay on their shoulders for dropping the ball? who put a church in charge of helping these people? Are they the only entity given the authority to help?
We don't go to church, and we don't expect someone who needs help to be at the mercy of a church, who can say yes or no. I think some churches have members who look out for other members in need, which is a very loving generous thing. But what if you are not a member said church, or any church? What is the criteria and level of help does that person gets? They, the churches, get to decide and qualify people, kind of like our government, but with much less oversight.
So the difference confuses me, a person pays taxes to all our government programs that hopefully have strong oversight and also a church belonging person pays a 10% tithe on top of that tax to a church.
Is this what makes people angry about paying taxes? They would rather not and pay into a church tithe and trust that it is handled well? They would rather trust a church/board over what happens to their money given than a regulated government? I guess to me it is one and the same. Except with government I can demand accountability through many different avenues. Which with churches, I don't know. Do you? Can you expect accountability or demand transparency from a church or non profit?
Just sharing my thoughts. I"m trying to explain how needy people fall through the cracks and end up in worse shape, it's fairly easy. Do we have a citizen measuring stick? if you can't make the mark, we don't care about you? because then you are a drain on our country. Ps- good luck, sink or swim, no one cares.
I wish KY3 had not run this story, because what it did was jam up, overwhelm and basically suck dry this resource. Now Moca has to hunt for funds to keep helping those in need. There are a lot of pretty poor people in MO, this organization covers quite a few counties.
Anyway, thank you for responding to my come late to the article comment.

Sometime in your lifetime you may need assistance. Be glad you live in a country that "attempts" to care, there are plenty who do not.

What do you propose we do with mentally challenge individuals, get rid of them? I'd say he has about a 7th grade mental level, but at least he was taught in school how to drive, has paid for his own 1998 vehicle and insurance. What about those even less able to do this?
What about those with Down Syndrome like Sarah Palin's son? He qualifies for Government disability assistance and probably gets it. He'll qualify for adult housing and help too, for the rest of his life unless those like you get your way.
We are trying to get him a job through "another" one of our government assisted programs for low income people, Laclede Industries who employ disabled individuals doing various jobs like janitorial, yard maintenance, recycling, product packaging, etc, while supervised by a "normal" person whose paycheck comes from our taxes. Wow, what a crime, helping those who need help.
This guy alone, no one has got him into the system, he's been forgotten since his father died 20 yrs ago, no food stamps, no medicaid, he lives in a falling down shack that should be condemned. So would it be okay with you if he lived in a box? During High School he was trained for a job at K-Mart, which he lost when they closed, but he was out High School and of the system by then.
You make it sound like these people are here illegally and may be taking jobs from "normal" people. Get your head out the sand, try caring a little. If you don't want our fellow citizens dependent on government assistance what are you willing to do to help? This is a real life!
Please try not to see things in such black and white terms, it's not that easy.

All people, be they everyday folk, politicians or celebrities do and say things, good or not so, but should any person be able to protect themselves from media scrutiny just because they have money, power, lawyers or contracts that say no media? Appearing in public is not the same as private, like your own home or something non public.
It's when reality is not captured, that alternate stories appear, and then you have no proof to the real story. Hiding things does not seem logical to me.

Why she can pull the wool over her fans eyes I don't understand. Perhaps it is blind love. Just don't give all your money to the snake oil salesperson named Sarah Palin. Love hurts.

She needs to quit whining and begging for sympathy.

She does things that bring on ethical questions, that rogue girl, so why is anyone surprised complaints were made? she should not be blaming the people who filed complaints, she should be looking at her own behavior and taking responsibility for it. But no, instead she makes excuses for quitting and blames anyone but herself.
She's pathetic.
