I'm sure that in the coming days, much more eloquent eulogies will be written by those who knew him. Irascible, influential, inspirational, enthusiastic, fearless, relentless, serious, playful - he was all these things.

The sense of loss I feel at his passing is meaningless when compared to his wife and children. I pray they find some solace in knowing he was loved and is mourned by so many.

Sleep well, noble warrior. You were a beacon in the fog.

One of the reasons I love posting to this site is because other posters really know their movies! Spielberg and Lucas are master craftsmen but I can think of very few actors who could have portrayed Hans Solo or Indiana Jones with the same perfect sense of comic and dramatic timing as Ford.

I saw "Team America" the first time on an overnight flight to Bangkok. I was laughing out loud - literally howling - while most of the other passengers were trying to sleep.

I didn't feel a bit guilty.

One of the best movie moments of all time: Indiana Jones takes a gun to a sword fight. I could watch that scene a million times and never get bored with it.

Don't know that's necessarily the point. Make good movies with conservative themes and leave the personal politics at home, I say (although obviously everybody has a right to speak their minds outside of the movie).

Most of the popular themes of great movies are consistent with conservative values. Love, friendship, virtue, loyalty, the classic good versus evil dynamic, overcoming adversity. The Lord of the Rings trilogy, for example.

I think the shift is in the general public mood. People just got bored of Hollywood politics and all the associated crap.

Firstly, people who go to see movies don't care a whit about the actors', directors or producers' politics. They care only about a movie. These individuals are entitled to their opinions, they are entitled to talk about politics and to support candidates and their various causes, liberal or conservative, but when the industry which makes movies casts them or chooses a director according to an actor's or director's politics and not his or her ability, the public suffers because the movies are not as good as they could be. Likewise, if plots/scripts get bogged down in message politics, they are no longer art - they are propaganda.

I'm crying. Yeah - really. Call me a sentimental old schmuck.

RIP, Davy and God bless your family. You gave me so many smiles in my life I stopped counting a long time ago.
