Won't all of these gun "transfers" have to go through background checks now? The person manning the tables for the church would according to the law be in possession of illegally transferred/obtained firearms. There is no written in exemption for anything like this. I expect all laws to be enforced.

Colorado requires background checks at gun shows..

There is a huge distinction between a Private Party sale and a Straw Purchase. A Straw Purchase is a deliberate attempt to break the law and put an illegal firearm in a felons hands.

If I have a rifle I would like to sell to my best friend that I have known my entire life and I know he is clean because he already has a security clearance working aerospace why should we bother with a background check?

That is not a "Straw Purchase".. once again you do not know what you are talking about. Selling a firearm to another person without a background check is simply a Private Party or FTF (Face To Face) transaction. Even with a FTF it is still illegal to sell to a person that is not allowed to have firearms and it is illegal for a person to buy a firearm if restricted due to a felony and so on. FTF sales are only legal if both people are in the same state, it is illegal to make a FTF sale across state lines (unless the two states have a firearms agreement with each other and this only applies to long guns) or to a person that is not a resident of the same state. Handgun FTF private party sales across state lines are completely illegal period. John Lott did a study years ago and concluded that FTF sales only account for 10% of all gun sales at best and was likely much lower.

From "Law Center To Prevent Gun Violence":
A “straw purchase” occurs when the actual buyer of a firearm uses another person, a “straw purchaser,” to execute the paperwork necessary to purchase a firearm from a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL).1 A straw purchaser is a person with a clean background who purchases firearms specifically on behalf of a person prohibited from purchasing a firearm because he or she is a convicted felon, domestic violence misdemeanants, juvenile, mentally ill individual or other federally or state-defined prohibited person.2 The straw purchaser violates federal law by making a false statement to the FFL about a material fact by lying on ATF Form 4473 (the firearm transaction record) or presenting false identification in connection with the purchase

Doesn't take long at all to load a shotgun, if you shoot clays or 3gun or any other shotgun sporting event it takes about a second to put another shell in the tube. He dropped it because he had several other guns as well, this tactic is known as a New York reload.. carry enough guns and who cares about magazines or reloads. The New York reload began with the NYC police Dept. Rather than carry a speed loader for their revolvers they just carried a second or third revolver. When the first was empty just drop it and go to the second.

Where are rocket launchers and grenades legal and where has anyone said they should be? They are not considered small arms, they fall under the category of "destructive device" thus it has been ruled years ago by the Supreme court that they do not pertain to the 2nd Amendment.

What are you talking about? Straw purchases are totally illegal under Federal Law.. I would hope that you know what the law is before you go and say something like a straw purchase is not illegal.

All firearms are Federally regulated.

Federal law prohibits straw purchases by criminalizing the making of false statements to an FFL about a material fact on ATF Form 4473, or presenting false identification in connection with the firearm purchase. Two federal statutes – 18 U.S.C. § 922(a)(6) and 18 U.S.C. § 924(a)(1)(A) – are the primary laws under which straw purchases are prosecuted.

Unless I am mistaken there still have not been any coroners reports or police reports released for Aurora and NewTown. Both of these lunatics (I refuse to name names while you seem to want to give them the accolade that they desire) had multiple handguns with them as well as a shotgun. I have yet to see anything that specifically lists exactly what was used and how many people were affected. Your blanket statement that 100% of these killings were committed with "high capacity killing machines" is only a guess at best at this moment. I prefer to wait for facts before making such statements. The VT lunatic committed his crime using only handguns with standard capacity magazines. Pretty much all of the wounded at Aurora that I have seen in the news showed signs of shotgun wounds and it has been reported that the rifle jammed early on, still waiting for the report on that one. Looking at the FBI Unified crime report it is easy to determine that over 90% of murders via firearm are committed with ordinary handguns, shotguns and rifles using only a single shot or two. Magazine bans will have no effect on the murder rate.
