I read it carefully, Mike. "Careful monitoring" is not an "innings limit." An innings limit is where you decide in advance to shut down a pitcher after some set period of time, regardless of how well the pitcher is performing and how healthy the pitcher appears to be. We have innings limits because even with "careful monitoring," the first sign of trouble can be a catastrophic injury -- particularly with "at risk" pitchers who are young or have recovered from catastrophic injury. And for pitchers, no injury is more serious than a shoulder injury.

You're right, it could be that the Yankees have a secret innings limit for Pineda. I'm just reacting to what they've said.
