I don't know which is scarier--knowing that monsters like this walk among us or that we don't know who they are until it is too late...

So it wasn't the McDonald's lady with the 7 kids?? What a HUGE surprise!

<sarcasm>

Wonder if she will do anymore press conferences to explain this one?

I think I know some people to pass this article to. I have a friend who allows her 5 year-old dictate what happens at mealtime and I have never seen such a picky eater as a result. This child subsists on KFC, pizza, and McDonald's, all at the child's whim. And it is not uncommon for the child to decide on pizza, only to refuse then to eat it and want something else (which mom promptly provides). It is also not uncommon to have to wait around for this child to "decide" what he wants so the rest of the household can eat. It is quite infuriating!

While the above-mentioned is surely an extreme, it also shows what can happen when children are given TOO much freedom with food choices. I have never had a problem with my own children -- they love a variety of healthy food. I think it helps to introduce healthy food early and often so that it is a "normal" part of every day life. I have also always encouraged trying new foods (I also impart the rule of the have to at least TRY something). It makes me smile when my kids ask for a piece of fruit for a snack when cookies are also readily available and they actually get excited about fish night!

My poor sweetheart is one of those who will have to work the extra hour :(

On another note, while I appreciate the extra hour of z's, I am not looking forward to it being dark by 5pm!

This is so heartbreaking to say the least. I just don't understand how people can be this cruel. Prison? Far too good for the likes of these people, especially step-mom.

I hope this child is able to recover. I am sure she will need plenty of counseling and I hope she is able to move on to live a healthy, productive life, despite her upbringing.

Quite the contrary. I think it is incredibly sad that kids nowadays are not allowed to enjoy the holidays in school the way I remember doing when I was growing up. Some of the activities and whatnot we had surrounding the holidays were some of the best memories I had of school and I think it is an incredible shame that our children today are denied those same experiences because some people choose to complain and make an issue out of it.
