Could it be the guy that disappeared from Lakewood in March? Earlier the police provided a description of the person and it seemed to possibly match the missing man. I think his car was found in Federal Way.
Wasn't there a man who disappeared about a month ago from Lakewood? It seems like he fits the description of the body.
Hope it was worth it for the school. Kids were damaged, they are going to lose millions in lawsuits and their reputation was destroyed anyway.
'"Kays said her clients hope their lawsuit forces the state to take action when abuse is reported."
I wish this family all the best but DSHS is never going to learn from this. This is not the first lawsuit of this kind and unfortunately it probably won't be the last. It's almost as if it is easier to just pay out huge settlements than it is to protect children and families. I'm tired of them using the excuse that they are understaffed. Maybe if they didn't pay out such huge settlements they would have enough money to employ the necessary staff.
I had a very similar experience about 7 years ago. A guy followed me from Tacoma to Buckley. I was not paying attention to my surroundings so I didn't realize it until I pulled into my own driveway and he pulled in next to me. Fortunately I was smart enough to not get out of my car and honked my horn until I got my dad's attention. Even after my dad came out he still kept trying to get into my car. He got scared off before the cops came and even with a grocery store surveillance video they still never caught the guy. I wish I had handled the situation as well as she did. Glad she is ok.
Maybe the medical examiner was trying to cover up what would have been another failure on the part of DSHS?
I have no words to describe how horrible child abuse is. I'm just glad that he is under investigation for (and hopefully charged with) first degree murder. Usually those who kill children by abuse get less than 10 years for their crimes. The state almost never charges these people with first degree murder. It's about time we start getting tougher on people who commit these crimes or it will never stop.
I'm pretty sure they mean 2012 and unfortunately this is not a higher number than usual. You can see the child fatality reviews on DSHS's own website although they do not seem to post them like they should be doing according to state law. Anytime there is a death of a child that has had any type of contact with DSHS within a certain time frame prior to that death they must conduct a child fatality review. DSHS does an average of 60-80 of these reviews a year although not all of these deaths are the result of abuse or neglect. Some of these children were medically fragile children but a lot of these deaths are the result of abuse or neglect and DSHS failed to intervene. And some of these deaths are because DSHS did intervene and put the child in a dangerous situation. I think any number is too high.
The Governor is responsible for DSHS. The AG only represents DSHS legally.
