Our faithful God called us to the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord (1 Cor 1:9) It is interesting to me that Jews (to whom Jesus is a stumblingblock - see v. 23) and Greeks (who consider Jesus' sacrifice as foolishness - see v, 23) are called to this wonderful fellowship with our Lord. Those Jews and Greeks who could and would answer this heavenly calling are those that believe Christ (The Anointed) is the power of God (for the Jews)and the wisdom of God (for the Greeks) (see v. 24). They had to have the heart to believe what they heard AND they had to willingly overcome cultural training and beliefs in order to identify themselves with Christ Jesus. Now v. 2 of Chapter one has greater meaning for me - "....... to them that are sanctified (set apart) in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours..."
