I've not been able to get past the first 5 chapters of the first book, but I've heard the series is better. But then again, the friends that raved over the book have recommended the series...

My mom took me to see this in the theater, when we were living in south Louisiana. Going to the movies was a special occasion (money was extremely tight and we lived waaaaay out, south of Houma). - this one remains one of my favorite Disney movies.
