I've used the intense debate system elsewhere. I think it's pretty good.

How well it'll take of will depend on how committed / tech savvy your readers are. I already use OpenID, so the barrier of entry for me was pretty low, however, many people will give up at the first sign of difficulty.

You can really only wait and see.
