Im glad Jerry and the rest of the staff realizes that the Mets have not gotten the job done with RISP, however everyone knows this. What I'd like to know, is that there is a plan of action to correct it.

His quoted statement above sounds very Willie-like..... "we arent clicking, but I know we will" ..... "I trust my guys"

As Matt said, its a fair point that at least we have men in scoring position in the first place, but watching the games it really feels like the mets have a pretty decent approach (as a team) at the plate to start the inning, but once someone gets on that all changes. Why is that?

I like that the Mets are aggressive at the plate, but it backfires since we have gotten the pitcher out of jam 75% of the time.

Bases loaded twice (if i remember correctly) yesterday and we only score 1 run?? What are the guys doing differently at the plate in those situations. THAT needs to be broken down and examined.

I agree, Sheff seems like a good guy in the clubhouse so far, but Tatis needs to be making those starts in the OF, not Sheff.

Church does NOT need to be benched, they need him in the lineup everyday to keep him in his groove. I love the guy, but he is not a good pinch hitter, plus he is a much better defender. At the very least Jerry should have given Beltran the day off and put Church in center.

I would have let Tatis swing away if he were hot at the moment. However, I dont believe he has gotten enough hacks this year to warrent that decision.

Hindsight is certainly 20/20, but I would have certainly layed down the bunt in that situation for all of the reasons Dirty mentioned

"Minaya also noted that while the number is limited, he has the ability to increase payroll with a mid-season acquisition if it is in an area on the roster that needs improvement."

Did you guys read this part of the post? We all knew that the Mets were keeping money in reserve for a mid-season acquisition. That was there plan all along, same with the Red Sox. They did this as a hedge if Murphy or Castillo or the rotation fell apart. Fresh blood for the stretch run.....seems like a good idea to me!

TOTALLY OFF TOPIC (wish we had a msg board)

But let me throw something out there for you guys. The entire first half of last year, and to a lesser extent the second half and this off season, this whole board (myself included) was begging for a youth movement. We wanted YOUNG guys to come up and play the game hard.

We got that. The bullpen, the rotation (1-4), the starters and the bench are all pretty young. HOWEVER....what comes with youth?? INEXPERIENCE.

We got a pretty darn young team that has the potential to put a winning product on the field day in and day out. We, as a collective fan base, need to take a step back and realize that we got EXACTLY what we wanted. Youth and an upgraded pen. But we also have to deal with the draw backs of that youthful inexperience.

The guys will get better this year, its a new season, new park, the pressure of the last two seasons etc. Someone else above put it perfectly, no one seems to remember what it was like cheering for the mets even though it was obvious they were out of it by May 1st!!

There are things that worry me about this team, sure, but I'm willing to deal with the hardships of youth because the payoff is usually there. Patience. The pen has looked great, Pelf struggled last night, and Ollie.....but Santana, Maine, Livan have looked either great or good.

Hang in there mets fans, itll get better soon and this first week will be out of our memory.

Matt,

Where does he intend to start Sheff? LF or RF?
