Regardless of where one stands on SOPA and PIPA, they target FOREIGN websites DEDICATED to the theft of IP, not domestic sites. Domestic sites that are pirating intellectual property already fall within the jurisdiction of the United States, and thus are already subject to prosecution and penalties under our tort laws. The bills are very clear that ONLY foreign sites are targeted.

Foreign rogue websites dedicated to the theft of American intellectual property operate outside the jurisdiction of the United States and are thus immune from prosecution. So, the idea that there are laws on the books to crack down on these FOREIGN sites is flatly incorrect.

The dirty little secret about SOPA and PIPA that opponents conveniently choose to ignore is that domestic-based sites dedicated to stealing valuable IP online are already subject to seizure within the United States. All SOPA and PIPA do is arm rights holders and enforcement authorities with the tools necessary to crack down on FOREIGN violators currently operating outside U.S. borders.

Seton is right. "We as Conservatives are for maximum freedom – within the confines of law and order." Remember, the fundamental preconditions for a prosperous and just society are rule of law and protection of property rights. Unfortunately, some conservatives have joined the online equivalent of Occupy Wall Street in putting the interests of foreign theives ahead of both.
