Well, I for one will always need the truck , ehmm, if I may, "A Mac Truck!," (Ya I know, sorry!) ;)

As a power user who works with video & DVD creation, I can't think of a life without my tower. I can see however that the future of mobile computing in whatever config a person might want it for will be of paramount importance to them and that it be as customizable as can be made available. As long as the info and daily tasks that most use a device for are capable of delivering what the average person needs, the focus will concentrate even more on these mobile devices.

Jobs & the folks at Apple are clearly way ahead of the curve in positioning themselves and us for this transition away from the desktop, while still cognizant of said desktop market to keep it viable and part of the entire tech food chain.

So yes, quit whining and lets get on with it!

Congrats Jim on a wonderful job!

The Loop is a place I visit several times every day and I really appreciate the quality of the writing and the subjects that they cover. The work that you have poured your heart & soul into is evident to everyone and you should be very proud of what you have done, and in such a short amount of time.

May I second your recognition of Peter Cohen's contributions to the Loop. Peter is a marvelous writer who gets to the heart of any story he is covering and does it with a professionalism that was honed from years of working at Macworld. Besides that, he is a surly S.O.B. and speaks his mind and has an outstanding sense of humor. I love the Angry Mac Bastards podcast he does with John & Darby. I've always been a big fan of Peter's!

Oh ya, a certain Mr. Dalrymple provides the kick-ass theme song for said podcast!

So Jim, from one Canadian to another... Way To Go Eh!

Excellent piece Jim & I really enjoyed the video. I'm picking up the guitar again as a beginner after decades removed from last trying to learn. I am looking at a myriad of teaching assets both on the internet and from apps like Garageband and the lessons that come with it. Also, I like the idea of buying additional lessons from musicians like Alex Lifeson and John Fogerty in helping to learn how to play.

Capo seems like another outstanding learning tool and your demo of it showed how powerful that tool can be. I really like the way you can slow down the speed of the song without effecting the pitch. Truly remarkable! I too am learning via tablature as I don't read music, & I see how Capo can facilitate the learning of new songs when tablature alone isn't enough.

Though I am starting with a steel stringed acoustic guitar, I can see how Capo will help me with my instrument and be just as useful. When I decide on an electric guitar, maybe by this time next year, I can see using Capo for that as well. Definitely an app that will be useful for many years to come.

Thanks for the heads up on this outstanding learning tool!

I don't think this is as far fetched as Shawn believes it to be. Besides the gorgeous iMac's on the market now, Apple has the 24 & 30" Cinema displays too. Is it really that much of a leap to speculate they would build 40 - 50 inch or more, TV's in the near future? I just bought a 24" Cinema display & bought an iMac back in the Fall, and the quality of the displays on both are simply stunning!

Considering that Apple has focused more and more on consumer electronics and not just computers over the last few years, it seems logical that this market, coupled with a subscription service, would be a venue that they would seriously think about. This would vault the Apple TV from being just a "hobby" into the serious entertainment delivery hub many of us have always hoped to see it aspire to. The fact that the device is still supported and updated via software gives me the impression that Apple does have big plans for it in this vain.

Obviously, I could be wrong and might be called out for missing on taking some doses of my medications as well, but thats what's fun and interesting about making a prediction that seems sound based on a logical progression of thinking given some of the facts that we know. Granted, we don't know all the facts nor at what level if any that Apple's R&D might be allocated for this, but I think Gene's thought process is sound and it seems a very logical progression in Apple's continued foray into the consumer electronics market.

Time will tell!

Like others have stated here already, Parallels was worth the price alone & I certainly will use most all of the rest of the bundle.

Speaking of Parallels, I am very impressed so far with it's overall function and the fact that I have been able to run some games that require Direct x 9 which I was not able to do using Virtual Box.

The bundle is worth every cent so if your mulling it over, go ahead and get while you still can!

Ok Jim, I purchased the bundle via your link so as to make sure The Loop gets some cash back. It's the least I can do to show support for your great web site. Besides, we Canadians have to stick together, eh!B)

14 years ago @ The Loop - New Jimi Hendrix album... · 0 replies · +1 points

Do yourself a favor and get this new Hendrix release, it's simply outstanding! It's wonderful, even after all these years and all the material that has been released since his death, that there is still quality recordings of Jimi's work still being found. Makes me wonder what else is stored in the vaults that is yet to be discovered that we could hear some day.

Jim, I heard you on YML last night and as far as liner notes are concerned, well I I'm an ex "stoner", as I always read them, though I did not sit around with my friends sharing them , I did that with the music though!. The accompanying liner notes to this iTunes LP was more of a historical perspective compiled by John McDermott than it was your typical liner notes. I found out things that I did not know and found the read enjoyable & fascinating! The photos were really cool too! All in all, the iTunes LP version of this was a very well presented package that I would like to see more of for many artist's releases.

One thing I must disagree with you Jim that you said to Shawn last night was that you thought Jimi was one of the best guitarists ever. No, sorry, I don't think so at all...

IMHO, Jimi has no equal, not even close, no where, in no genre of music that exists.
Simply put, there is Hendrix and then there is everyone else!

This new release simply showcases Hendrix with some great new tracks.

Just freakin' get this folks, you'll be glad you did!

I smell TROLL!

Now go away little boy, they're are adults talking here.
Oh, and don't forget to wipe down your keyboard after all those "hot dates" you go on in your mom's basement.
