p.s. according to Mr. Hawking it shouldn't really make any difference if adults or children die, or how they die, or when they die, because it's no different than just turning off a computer.

You can read about him here, and it has information on the FAA crash report...it was pilot error of the leased plane. I don't know how you can blame passengers strapped in their seats for any plane crash. Accidents happen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keith_Green

If I follow the logical extension of Mr. Hawkings reasoning, it would make no difference if today, suddenly, everyone on Earth died. Moreover, it wouldn't matter if they died peacefully or died a horrible death. It also shouldn't matter if we feed the starving poor in Africa, or just let them die and spend our Western money on better lifestyles here. For that matter of fact, why not have some fun and just randomly lob some nuclear missiles around the world so we can see all the pretty explosions. Heck, nothing matters, we're just all computers waiting for our time to shut down, and then it's done. Makes no difference if you're a slave, or a slave driver with a whip. Mr. Hawking lives in a very simple world, because the end has no consequences for how we lived our lives here, because once we're gone, we're done, end of story, that's it, adios and goodbye. What a sad way to live, to look on life as so meaningless and empty...maybe 100 years of life, filled with pain, joy, laughter, anger...it makes no difference. I'm glad I'm not him, not because of his physical disability, but because of his emotional disability.

How does saying that everything we have done become meaningless when we die...and our brain/computer turns off...show him being "hopeful for humanity"? That sounds totally hopeless to me and gives no value to anything anyone has ever done. If according to Hawking we live and then...POOF...die, and that's the end of it, then whether that person who lived was a Hitler or a Mother Teresa makes no difference whatsoever. We are not a Borg Collective, where the collective is more important than the individual...in God's eyes we are all equally important individuals, and each one of us matters. According to Hawking, really none of us matters, and in fact all of humanity has no value, and if all of humanity died today, it wouldn't matter that the Earth had no humans, because in his mind he sees no hope for anyone. However, I see hope in being a human, not in being a computer that's on the way to the scrap heap.

It’s too long to go into detail here, but below is the book of Genesis from the Bible, written about 1,000 BC (3,000 years ago) http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genes...
Here is a simplified, slimmed down version of Genesis.
The Beginning
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light LIGHT
9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” THEN LAND AND WATER
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” THEN VEGETATION ON LAND
20 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, THEN SEA CREATURES
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. THEN LAND CREATURES
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them. THEN HUMANS
Now, how does this compare to The Big Bang and what scientists tell us of the Big Bang and the Earth’s evolution.
Big Bang causes LIGHT, much later after Earth after Earth cools WATER accumulates around the DRY LAND, and then VEGETATION appears, then SEA CREATURES, then LAND CREATURES, then HUMANS.
So, we have a 3,000 year old summary which is pretty close to what science tells us now, written by people who didn’t have computers, didn’t have telescopes, had no knowledge of geology, or plate techtonics, or genetics, but yet who wrote down things pretty close to the order the same order given by modern scientists. Now, was that random chance, or divine guidance in writing the book of Genesis Bible…you tell me.
If this had just been some guy writing Genesis, with no human intervention, he could have written things which would have been pure nonsense, but to someone 3,000 years ago, or even 1,000 years ago, would have seemed perfectly OK.

Well, there are plenty of things outside of religion that are unnecessary, divisive and bothersome, so I'll let it go at that...try reading CS Lewis' book, Mere Christianity. Boils it down to the basics. I agree, I don't think mean-spirited comments directed at Mr. Hawking serve any useful function, and I hope if you read my comments you will not find that tone in them. None of my comments were meant to put down Mr. Hawking, only to show that there is hope even for him, whereas what he writes shows to me a hopeless life with nothing to look forward to in the end. To summarize his life based upon his beliefs it seems to be, "Write a lot of books, teach a lot of classes, make a lot of speeches, turn off computer, goodbye, darkness." Regarding any judgement, that's up to the individual and none of us is perfect, or even close to perfect.

Dear SeanPatriot, I'm a Christian and not the least bit upset about what Mr. Hawking says or writes about God. I feel sorry for him, and I worry about him just as I worry about any other non-Christian. Every human being on this planet is on their own individual journey, and periodically the entire human race gets recycled. Despite all that is in the history books about the U.S. civil war, there is not a man or woman alive today who was even a baby then. Stephen Hawkings come, and Stephen Hawkings go. Alexander the Greats come, and Alexander the Greats go. The only constant in THIS world is our own self-inflated egos, when in fact we all are, as the song goes, just "dust in the wind." God cares about us, even when we don't care about Him. Others have learned that too late before Stephen Hawking, but as long as a person is still alive it's not too late.

John 3:16 (New International Version) For God so loved Stephen Hawking that he gave his one and only Son, so that if Stephen Hawking believes in him Stephen Hawking shall not perish but have eternal life. Dear Mr. Hawking, all you need to do is believe, and let God take care of the rest.

I would ask Mr. Hawking two questions. First, why does he feel a need to accomplish anything, if when we all die he feels it's the end of things? If that is the case, accomplishing great things and doing great good for people in the world has no more significance than accomplishing nothing, zero. Second, he has his own faith. It is the faith that there was something, some little ball of matter which always existed, and then...BOOM...at some time in the past it just decided to erupt into the Big Bang. Why does he have faith that that happened, as it is surely faith because it is totally unprovable? I feel very sorry for Mr. Hawking. So brilliant, and so lost, with nothing to look forward to other than the OFF switch being hit on his brain/computer, and then eternal nothingness and the complete erasure of all that he ever did, thought, or wrote. I believe in heaven, and as a Christian I can't wait to get there.
