Remember the Whigs - They died because of fissures over slavery. Today the republicans have an unnatural alliance between social conservatives and economic conservatives. It is tied into a fabric of anti-intellectualism, and anti-immigration. With the demographics of the country changing, and various constituencies like latin-americans are being pushed away to the democrats, the republicans have to change. If not they are dead meat!!!!!!!
