"as funds become available"...._But that is the problem. Less and less funds are available. They are cutting the Tornado's to save money.__Any other airforce is buying less F35 because of the price. And the UK will be buying more in the end? I'am not buying that.

And how are you going to train future bombercrew with the loss of all true bombers?
With these cuts you will loose much more. History has learned us over and over again that you can replace materials but the loss of experienced people will put you far behind!!!

It does sounds strange. An airplane from the '50 going strong until 2040!!!
But it still can serve its purpose. It won't be flying over high threat areas. But its arsenal of stand-off weapons will do a whole lot of damage to let say airfields, harbours’ etc.

And I assume that the Air force will have enough protection in the air if the Buffs are in the air. Any army/nation will take these Giants in consideration. And that's the strengths off the B52's.

He is not talking about dropping the high tech weapons. He is saying that the Navy must operate as a Navy, not a corporation. That is the basics he reefers to.

Just another comparison. The LCS isn't a dedicated ship for one mission.
It's too late to cancel everything. Get those LCS is the field (uh... oceans) and learn from it.

DanS is right, the navy will assess every situation and deploy the ships accordingly. And that too will go wrong ,remember the Battle of Leyte Gulf. Then the sailors and aviators made the huge different, not the ships.

These were just arguments for the economics side of the program.
There is no alternative yet on the market if you want a 5th generation aircraft. And I am beginning to wonder if the Europeans really want a 5th gen. A good 4.5 gen. will do nicely (for the time being).

I'm afraid the JSF will put itself out of business because of the costs, that's the main threat for this thing.

Maybe a bit early!? But is seems the F35 program should be looked over again as for the production numbers.
The US pushed aircraft out of the fiscal scope (is buying less)
Italy will be buying less
The UK will be buying less (and dropped one variant)
The Dutch said nothing yet, but with their frozen budget they can afford 45-50 aircraft instead of the intended 85.
Not looking to good.
