Just a little notice about 4.0.2:

If you're on an iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G with the old bootrom, you can the redsn0w version from June to jailbreak your device; just point it at the 4.0 ISPW. ultrasn0w can also unlock the iPhone 3G on this version, since there is no baseband update.

If you're own an iPhone 4, iPhone 3G S, iPod touch 3G or iPod touch 2G MC model, DO NOT UPDATE EVEN IF YOU HAVE YOUR SHSH BLOBS SAVED. It is a good idea to get this malicious exploit patched, but if you rely on a jailbreak/unlock, don't do it.

I believe @cdevwill released a patch of his own, which you can install from a .deb file through SSH that will patch the PDF exploit and allow you to keep your JB/unlock, but I'm not entirely sure (I did have it installed, though).

Creating a jailbreak is a highly complex process, which most people don't understand because we just see it as a one-click program that installs Cydia or a repo installation app (blackra1n) on the device and that's it.

I've honestly just tried playing around with various parts of the iPhone, but it's difficult to just go find an exploit and make a jailbreak out of it. If it takes people like comex and geohot this much time to create a good product with minimal bugs, it'd take an average hacker unfamiliar with the iPhone months to find an exploit and/or create a jailbreak from that.

Meanwhile, in Cupertino at Apple HQ...

Haha, glad to know it's not any sort of legal violation to jailbreak my phone, not that I really cared before. :P

Just wanted to speak for a second. Can't wait for the thumbs down from all the haters -- woo.

Anyways, after instant messaging Comex, it seems that even he doesn't know when Spirit will be released. There are several other people that still have to finish their contributions and parts before Spirit is even fully packaged, plus several bugs and issues are still being worked out, including the main ones that Saurik mentioned in his interview with Make it Work.

It's a shame Sunday wasn't Funday once again, but continue being patient. All of the pieces are in place and the tools will be released soon. I'm not trying to be a spokesman, but just give people a realization of what's actually taking place.

In the meantime, save your SHSH blobs, trim your SIM cards if you need to, get your iPhone activated and help others and ask real questions, rather than ask/demand a release date.

To clear up confusion:

@comexkstd is a parody account of comex, sort of like @egohot parodies geohot and @ceoSteveJobs parodies Steve Jobs. Any tweets made from this account are a joke and not meant to be taken seriously.

Even @comex said: "I feel so special for having a parody account."

Lighten up a bit and laugh, this doesn't have to be a dead serious subject.

It's a parody account -- did you catch the follow-up tweet?

Everyone would get pissed at geohot, even those that still support him, like myself. It'd be a dick move to try and upstage the Dev-Team and release first.

So, the friend geohot told everyone to follow on Twitter before he deactivated his account, @MikeCohenn, tweeted this a couple days ago:

"What's a good time to make it ra1n?"

I'm won't really care if limera1n comes out before Spirit, but considering Spirit is expected to be released soon, I don't understand the point of this tweet. I'm guessing that it's being saved for 4.1 or something, but still, not the best timing on the part of his friend (though George is probably pulling the strings).

@MuscleNerd: @Gangstatyzz hmm just staying the unlock is ready now, for whenever the public JB is done + debugged + packaged

So, now we just have to wait for Comex to finish up his jailbreak and we'll see a release.

Yes, both 4.0 and 4.0.1 will be jailbreakable when the update to Spirit is released.
