I am a graduate of the Fisher Institute for Wellness & Gerontology at BSU. It was a great experience that has served me well as a health & wellness professional and as an entrepeneur. I had an assistantship as well which made the experience much more meaningful than it would have been otherwise, IMHO. I still stay in touch with many of the people from the program and am working on building an alumni group on the HPCareerNetwork (http://www.hpcareernetwork.com).

Interesting, It seems old dogs can learn new tricks from the younger generations who are all about work/life balance. Great!

Several excellent points. Joining a professional organization as a student is an excellent way to ease the transition from school to the so called "real world". The connections members make may very well remain strong throughout a professional career. Also, be a member of... says to others that you take your professional development seriously and that you intend to keep up on trends and new ideas. This may seem obvious while you're in school but once out, it becomes increasingly difficult to stay plugged in to your profession.

It seems when times are bad jobs in health are much more resistant to economic downturn. According to the US Department of Labor, (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos063.htm)the outlook for health educators is good although the size of the industry is smaller than some of the other professions. That's not news to any of us in the field. But it is rather comforting to know that Uncle Sam believes in us too!
