Exactly, we need to pay for more cops so they can do this crap. This is more ridiculous than the Mayo fubar.
The cops fail to appreciate that at least half of the population thinks the marijuana part of this bust is a total waste of time. No one likes illegal weapons but it was a .380 with a shaved off serial #, fine him destory the gun and lets all move one. Aren't we fighting two wars?
Who cares? Lesson here is don't have illegal guns and keep your GD mouth shut.
One story though said they had this problem about a year ago nearby, I assume in that building on College at the tracks, about 2 blocks away. Since then they apparently have not done anything to fix it. This is area has a lot of heavy industry, including the old Rowe AMI, Dexter Lock and Dohler Jarvis buildings. You would think having enough water pressure in that area would be a priority. They keep saying this building was huge, I was by there today, I don't know what they are talking about, it is modest sized at best.
They have less than two months to come up with a budget. If what is reported here is true about hiring new Administration staff while terminating teachers, Taylor should be called on the carpet at the next meeing. Between the executive committee and the Board they have met about 6 times on Taylor's evaluation. What is taking them that long, it has to be failure to get them all to jump on Board a glowing review. Now he admits all his BS about improvement was, well it was BS and they are about to have several schools put on a list of failing schools. They have more problems than the budget.
Who was it said, "What do you have to do to get fired around here?"
Taylor made three very controversial changes. He told the teachers they could not consider attendance in grades, gave the kids all year to make up assignments and the H Grade. I don't believe he got Board approval for any of it and the Board just took it w/o a whimper, then extended his contract. Then we find out that despite these efforts to pass kids and move them along we have 93% of one 9th Grade class at 2.0 or less, a lousy graduation rate and no money honey. I think McGlynn has been there from Newby to Taylor, she has sat there and watched the District twist in the wind. Now, when the District is on the verge of failure she wants change, give me a break. You could believe it if she had been dragged along kicking and screaming but she has been a Bernard worshiper all along.
What a difference it is watching Baker, Falb and to some extent Linnear in action asking questions. They were actually getting ovations for their questions the other night.
One other thing is important here I am probably going to vote NO mostly because of the behavior of the GRPD. First the rep that went to the early meetings and said something about using the alternatives presented by some citizens to wipe his butt were outrageous. I have not heard that he apologized for that, has he? Second they continue to spend hours of police time running multiple car speed traps on Burton, Hall and other streets. How does a department with staffing concerns have 4 cars at Hall and Buchannan running speed traps on Saturday morning. I have the photos to prove it. Finally the time spent fooling around with a Medical Marijuana Ordinance was a complete waste, generated by GRPD, the City Attorney's office and the Planner. They are still wasting time on it and are probably going to get sued over it and deservedly so. I am going to raise my taxes so they can continue that campaign against the will of the people?
You make good points BUT there is a severe trust problem out there. It was about 10 years ago I think that we passed a millage dedicated to increasing and maintaining public safety levels. It was supposed to permanently solve the problem, how'd that work out. Gov. Enlger got us to increase or gas tax and that was supposed to permanently fix the road problems, how'd that work out. Now we are supposed to believe these promises about it is only for 5 years and they are going to fix it in the meantime. I can hear them now in 5 years trying to sell it as just a tax continuance and not a tax increase.
