Thankfully, here in SW GA, we also get at least two distinctive season. Warm and HOT with a few days of 'very cold' . . . even had 2.5 inches of snow on the ground. We miss the 'fall' with the really pretty varied colors.

GRITSandSLUTS formerly (or still????) known as "Lenora". Almost overnight . . . the 'Gremlings' they keep mentioning apparently captured me; and took me to Cyberhell. HELP! This is my first attemp at blogging; and so apparent that I don't know WTHeck I am doing. On the general 'comments' I think (??) I was GRITSandSLUTS; and then I got on this one, apparently with some people who really know how to manuver around; and when it asked for my 'name', instinctively put in Lenora; then IntenseDebate came up and said I had to register; now nothing is working right. For about 5 minutes, I couldn't even open any of the Replies. It is cold everywhere; even in South GA, we aren't use to having this many early evening/early morning 'freezing' or 'near freezing' weather.

Whoa . . . isn't it? I am trying not to pull my hair out, nor pull anymore of my hubby's hair out. My question about the wood flooring is . . . just how much of the wooden floor already 'in the cabin blog house' would be able to be used? Just because the floors upstairs have been painted doesn't mean they can't be sanded and brought back to life. And . . . if 'anybody' can even read this reply; I know that the GRITSandSLUTS that is appearing up at the top of the blog . . . under Mary's name should NOT show "Dashboad/Edit Profile/Logout"; I have 'tried' to 'login'; I think I have been captured by the "Gremlings" and I'm stuck in CYBERHELL. Posting were 'finally' showing up here (under my name); and I have replied to Kathy Seals; but that was 8 days ago. This "IntenseDebate" site isn't easy for me, a novice blogger; with a disability that keeps me from reading pages of instructions, especially when I don't even know what they mean.

I'm for using the outside window panes to put into 'transoms' . . . that crank out. How i wished I had taken some 'pictures' of my old homeplace. So many details for a house built before the Civil War and to think all this done without the fancy saws and computer images, etc. As for the price of the home; there will be an IRS Agent standing there waiting for whoever receives these prizes with his/her hands held out. Whatever the package is worth is what they will be collecting taxes on; most people would probably HAVE to sell the house, in order to pay the taxes on the $$$ and vehicle . . . not that I'd turn it down . . . I still want to WIN!

Until the washer overflowed and ruined the ceilings in the first floor. Like having AC/Heating in an attic; we know that didn't work . . . but that was the way builders were doing them in the late 70's [wanting a cleaner looking landscape]. Put it outside and hide it with some sort of lattice work or decorative fencing. The house my Dad used as his office (also built around the Civil War or before) sat up off the ground (more so at the rear of house; and had a slightly sunken 'garden/greenhouse'; and in the hallway of it (considered to be a 1-story house) it had a huge 'sky-light'. Doesn't really make a lot of difference what gets chosen; every house we have ever lived in . . . we have always said, "Gee, I wish we had . . . !"

Maybe since this house was not built until the 1900's and was a 'farmhouse' . . . I should not 'compare' what was in the house I lived in built before the Civil War; but everything was very 'fancy'; even the baseboards had grooves in the (and a piece . . . actually all one piece) at the top that looked like a 2nd kind of moulding. I don't like the Australina cypress (too busy) . . . might be OK in a room; but I don't think I could live with its 'busy-iness' all the time. Wooden floors are probably going to be partially covered with some type of 'rug'. Kitchen and bath rooms would be nice to have 'heated' floors . . . bathrooms especially.

Yes, the ornate 2nd choice of 'ballusters' would be more in keeping of the 'time' period . . . I don't quite understand the 'kitchen' choices when it comes to the 'sink'. Is it the metal sink or is the the 'old' farmhouse thick enamel one? Surely they aren't to go hand-in-hand.

I agree, Mimi . . . to redo an 'inside' FB to bring it back to a 'working wood burning' FB would cost a fortune; and this inset appears to be the 'largest' of the 3 to me. In the house I grew up in, we did not have a raised heart; just a very wide one, same 'tiles' as the surrounds (or at least in the LR), in the DR, same color but the surrounds had raised pea pods. We had a huge bay window in the DR and in the MBR above it.

I'm hoping that the "ceiling treatment" you are referring to is the 'picture frame holder' that would be about 12" down from the ceiling. In the house I grew up in, occasionally the ceiling color would be all the way down and/or including that moulding as the 'ceiling'; and any color used would go all the way down to the baseboard (which in our home was 12"+ (all one piece although it gave you the impression of being several pieces. I also 'try' NOT to assume too much like NancyBee . . . you never really know 'what or why' they do some of the things they do. And to clarify for some of you . . . I started off as "GRITSandSLUTS", then told I had to go through IntenseDebate to have my posts listed; had problems with it; so just posted - I guess, as a guest' . . . but after several tries . . . looks like I am back to "GRITSandSLUTS" - it is an 'acronym' and does not mean anything 'ugly'. Loving this house more and more, too! Posted as "Lenora" . . . but don't see that except under posting. ???
