i don't know exactly how things went down in the meeting between the girl and the general manager or HR or whoever it was that fired her. but i'm guessing it wasn't like: "we're firing you for wearing a religious article of clothing". i'm guessing the policy was explained to the girl that what she was choosing to wear was against company policy, and that just because the manager who hired her didn't tell her it was (against policy) at the time of her hire does not make it ok for her to wear it. perhaps they told her she can chose to continue to work at the store if she abided by the policy or she would be fired, and instead of complying, she chose to make them fire her. and to answer your question: yes, i would guess they'd fire the White woman undergoing chemo for also choosing not to comply with the policy.

perhaps this is not a case of religious discrimination so much as it is a case of the hiring manager not fully knowing the dress code rules? i kind of doubt a company as large and public as A&F would blatanly fire an employee based on their religious affiliation.
