We are so fortunate to have the time to debate questions like these, when the vast majority of the world is simply trying to stay barely alive for one more day and too often not succeeding. I find it difficult to believe that this is just their karma. With that said -- it's been a couple of thousand years since The Buddha and Jesus, and we can only speculate as to why The Buddha did not kill himself and why Jesus went to the cross (he could have run), because, after all, they didn't write anything down. This is a another time in the evolution of the human race. I say, if a terminally-ill person or a person with Alzheimer's wants to kill himself/herself, they should be able to do so legally and with assistance. And if they don't want to, we should make them as comfortable as we possibly can until nature takes its course. Are there going to be abuses with lawful Assisted Suicide? Of course. Human beings abuse, to a lesser or greater extent, everything under the sun, from themselves to children to sex to money to food, etc. But we will do what we can to ensure that it will be difficult for Assisted Suicide abuse to occur.
