It should not suprise me... I called Liberty benefits today to confirm the balance due for this month's COBRA health insurance coverage since I had already overpaid on last months coverage and was told "we are still working on updating the system." I asked for an amount and they would not help me. I asked about paying an estimate instead of paying the statement which is overbilling by nearly $300 and they said that my payment would be returned if I pay an estimate. I understand the company is huge, but is it really that hard to get a correct balance? I am so glad I avoided taking auto or homeowners coverage at Liberty while I worked for them. I realize I am a former employee so everything Liberty does will be viewed as negative but it seems like they don't even try to do the right thing. When the media talks about the banks/insurance companies that were bailed out, I wonder what was so bad about that compared to what Liberty mutual has done and layed off thousands of employees and continue to take millions and millions of dollars for the upper management bonuses.
My biggest question is how can Ted Kelly and all his drones sleep... they take millions in pay and perks and let thousands of employees go. Liberty was not hurting financially yet the top management decided they needed to tighten things up to make higher margins. Liberty bought up a number of companies and then "killed" the Wausau brand. If you cant beat em kill em must have been their thinking. I believe that when Liberty bought Wausau Insurance 10 years ago that was their intent. Will Liberty buy the US government next so they can control the whole country?
I just read the last comment and my heart goes out to you. I sometimes wonder if what I went through (given poor perormance review mid 2008 and then put on warning and probation late 2008) was a staged situation that my manager had to do to keep their job. I acknowledge that I was no star performer at Liberty, but I gave it my all. The harder I tried to do even more and do it better it seemed it just was not good enough. I was doing things like working off the clock to try to survive, and was even fearful of being caught or questioned for doing that. Finally I was told that my performance had improved, only to find myself given notice of my job being eliminated when Liberty killed the Wausau Insurance brand. I have been unemployed for several months and I know it is is for the best that I no longer have to be treated so poorly there, however it sure was nice having a paycheck and health insurance.
