I'm a guitar player and a Reason 4 user.
I use to be a die hard Ableton Live 7 user, but I'm really impressed with Record.
The mixer section floors everything I've heard before and you get the standard (for propellerhead) top quality effects. The master compressor is sweet.
No VST compatibility .. well , this apparently looks like suicide for a software that targets guitar and bass players. The best tube amp simulations are available in VST , I use Guitar Rig 4 and Waves GTR 3 for my recordings ..and the tone is super cool
With Record you get a Line 6 software POD to insert as an fx in your Audio Track which sports 3(three !!!) amp simulations .
Well , lets face it : it sucks compared to the VST big guys from Native Instruments and Waves.
The days when Line6 POD family ruled the amp simulation world are long gone.
BUT .. instead of slamming in the insert fx just a Line6 amp and no more , I would suggest to give a try to the insert FX presets , under the Guitar Amp category.
You will get prompted with a combinator device filled one or more (in stereo) Line6 amps and a bunch of other devices , like compressors, equalizers , and most of all ,the powerful Scream Distortion device . A whole different world came to my ears scrolling the presets. You will not be disappointed.
So, my point :
Is Record cool ? Yes, super cool .
Is the software tube amp simulation included in Record crap ? Yes, compared with state of the art simulations available on the market.
Is it possible , with some tweaking to get great guitar tones? : Yes again with a little faith.
