You can buy water filters for your faucets that do filter out most of the pharmaceuticals.

But really, I think our food is pretty much safe. With the peanut butter and the pistachios, how many people got sick? Its really a teensy tiny percentage of the population. Travel just about anywhere and eat the food and you'll most definitely get sick. If you really don't trust the food supply, though, try not buying anything processed or packaged. You'll feel a lot better physically and mentally with just making that one change. And, the less something is handled the fewer chances there are for bacteria to be introduced.

Why are all the tea parties happening in the middle of the day on a work day? Doesn't anyone work?

I'm hanging a tea bag on my rearview mirror since I can't take time off.

Ugh, I live in Chicago but I work in the suburbs. I wish I could attend the tea party, but I can't take time away from work! I hope there is a good crowd for you. Somehow, I think there will be.

Since I can't attend, I'm hanging a tea bag on my rearview mirror instead. Not as good...but that's all I can do.

Because the "money" is not the same as the US dollar, printing it can't really contribute to inflation- there aren't more actual dollars in the marketplace. It can, however, be affected by inflation since it is essential backed by the US dollar. Bartering is still a better option....and we all know how well that works out.

It looks like a lot of people aren't reading the article. (Click on the "Read" button to see it.)

Essentially, no one is printing US money (the green -and sometimes orange- kind we all know and love/hate) Instead, some local banks and businesses have teamed up to offer coupons that act as store credit for participating businesses in the area. Many offer these credits/coupons at a discount (spend $9 to get $10 worth of store credit)- which is nice if you routinely shop at those stores anyway. It may also encourage more people to shop locally instead of at national chains.

Since not all businesses will be willing to participate (companies are taxed the same way regardless of whether you use real money or these discount coupons) and the coupons will only have value in the area where they are printed, I don't think this is particularly dangerous. Just don't convert all your cash into the local "money"!

Glenn and I belong to the same church. Two of the things our leaders have been teaching for decades are self-reliance and preparedness. Some of the things that we are encouraged to do, if possible, are to plant a garden, have at least three months of income set aside in savings, have a "72 hour kit" containing all the things you would need for three days if you were forced to leave your home in the event of an emergency, and to have a 2 year supply of food and other necessities. It sounds extreme, but those things aren't just for disasters. When I was in high school, my dad died rather suddenly and we lived off of our savings and food storage for a few months. It was a huge blessing then, and my husband and I are now trying to build up storage for our own family.

To a great chunk of the country, marriage is largely a religious ceremony in which a man and a woman enter into a holy union before God- and most religious people believe that homosexuality is unacceptable in the sight of God. To change the definition of such an ancient, and highly personal, tradition is naturally going to create opposition. If a civil union is basically the same thing, sans the definition of man and woman and the opposition, why would the gay community be opposed to it? (And most people don't refer to marriages, they refer to weddings and spouses.)

1 Term limits (define a term and a maximum number of terms that can be served) and end lifetime judicial appointments.
2 School vouchers and/or massive school reform that incentivizes great teaching and creates an environment in which bright, average, and more needy students can all thrive.
3 Immigration reform that protects Americans and American jobs, while improving the process to citizenship. (ie- could service in our military provide a fast-track to citizenship? I think the sacrifice may be worth it...)
4 Put the local, state, and federal governments on a budget that can pay off debt- and stick to it until the deficits are gone. (If the money for good programs has to be pulled, ask for the communities/private sector to take over!)
5 Tax reform! Make it easy enough to teach to high school students in their required government or economics classes!

I love my dog, but I can't marry it. I love my cousin, but I can't marry him. The point is that there are regulations regarding marriage, and the law doesn't take feelings into account- only safety. You have the right to express your feelings, but you don't have the right to do whatever your feelings dictate if that action is against the law.

I understand your frustration- the gay community has been too long neglected, and there are real problems that need to be addressed. But what I truly don't understand is, why isn't a civil union a respectable solution? It doesn't bear the same name as the mostly religious ceremony of marriage, and it would provide the same rights and protections. To my understanding, where that has been tried it has been highly successful- for both homosexuals and heterosexuals alike. A wedding can still be called a wedding, whether it is a marriage or a union, whether a judge or a priest presides. So what is the problem?
