It is incredibly freaky, isn't it? It's the look in the eyes that really gets me. Lights are on, nobody is home. I hate seeing her like that.

You are right about the movie. I think board games will work early on, but not in the wee hours. I like the cooking idea. Think we'll bake some sugar-free brownies! :)

She acts tired. But recovers more quickly than when she has a complex partial. She's not out of it for as long. I also hope we capture one on the EEG; then we would have definitive info on what is going on with her. Looking back and seeing pictures like this that date back a year really freaked us out. It's possible this has been going on right under our noses all that time, and we had no idea. :(

LOL! Oh I love memoirs. Reading another one now. I just don't normally read celebrity ones. ;)

Yes, petit mal are now called absence seizures. It is the same thing, and you describe it perfectly. The other night at dinner SB stopped mid-bite and stared blankly into space. She did not respond to being called or touched (something the neurologist told us to try). Then suddenly she began to chew again. She has no idea it is even happening.

She is more noticeably tired after a complex partial seizure than an absence one, but we understand it can be common with both and work to act accordingly. I am definitely eager to get to the bottom of things. Hopefully we can get them under control.

Thank you for coming by and sharing your experience with this!

I am planning to get some special/new things to introduce that night. The small meals thing is a great idea! And thank you so much for the prayers.

Thanks, Kathleen! That's a good idea. I had another mom suggest mini dance parties whenever she starts to nod off. Same basic concept - get her up and moving. This mom had to keep her 3yo up all night for an EEG. She said at one point she was having to spray him with a water bottle! Ack!
