It is a great idea to offer some compensation for being a trustee. It is a huge commitment and is probably 25+ hours a week or more to focus on issue important to the town. I am only one vote but I would support the concept. Of course this would assume that trustees honored their oath they took when they accept the office.

February 2, 2010 in 4-3 vote to add Bonanza to Ballot during emergency session

Colin Towner - "It is time to hear what the people of the town of Erie think about it. If the decision comes back NO then great, we have made an economic choice and have sent a strong signal out to the market as a whole that once NO, twice NO"

Andrew Moore - "this is in the context of 'Do you agree with the decision of the board to move forward?'. I'm personally okay if the voters decided not to make the corners of Bonanza and Hwy 7 as competitive as possible simply because it will bring certainty to the situation. It is time to hear public comment from all of Erie and not assume that we know what the voters ultimately want."

Andrew said on many occasions that he is okay if the vote is no. Do you think he is okay with it? I can virtually guarantee you that Andrew is not okay with the people's vote and that he will continue to work behind the scenes to influence new candidates and to find a way to bring this back again and again. It the vote won by 1 vote, Andrew would have said 'the people have spoken' and bulldozers would already be working. But since the people said 'NO', Andrew and Cheryl are already scheming saying we need to hear more now from more developers. Andrew will continue to try to solicit more developers to give him sounds bites that he will use to try to influence board members and citizens. It would be wonderful if Andrew and Cheryl would listen to the people for a change. Andrew and Cheryl claim that is all they wanted was ultimate finality with this issue but since they got the answer they did not want, they are already working other angles. Please Andrew and Cheryl, listen to the people. Focus on new, great things for Erie. Please do not spend 100 more cycles on this.

I think we should focus on Fletcher Drive first because it does not have the extreme engineering challenges and cost that Bonanza does. Also, the Bonanza connection only shaves 1 block off the route because Vista Parkway already goes straight to the middle of all the commercial activity on Hwy 7. The Fletcher Drive connection will more directly help Old Town businesses and it will provide convenience to Northridge and the new subdivisions approved that are North of Northridge with access to the rec center area and parks.

Great links. Good information. Thank you! These appear to contain good information on how to present the value of airports.

First, based upon your logic, every airport in the country should close down because they use the same logic to measure success and contribution.

Also, there are far more than 9 businesses but even if there were only 9 or even 5, why would that diminish their value. Just 1 business that contributes a lot is nothing to discount. Your logic flawed to say the least and it is obvious you are just an airport hater. Perhaps you should not have moved here. Check the avigation easement that you signed when you bought your house. It says there are airplanes near by.

What is the point you are trying to make? If you would like, I can setup up time with each business at the airport so you can present to the owners and employees on why they should leave Erie. You can thank them for all they have done and then help them understand why they are not welcome in Erie and why they should stop working to build their businesses to provide full-time jobs to help support our town, schools and amenities. Please let me know if this is something that will help move your goals forward.

It really does. The people making touch and go's quite often stop for fuel and some will take a break and visit the museum or catch a shuttle to a restaurant or borrow the crew car to go into town. Some of these people end up loving our town and they end up buying a plane and base it at the airport like one did recently. It will result in $20K in sales taxes and a lifetime annuity of fuel and repair services and a lifetime of this pilot and their passengers frequenting our Erie restaurants.

There is one hangar complex alone that has 100 hangars, the largest privately owned hangar complex west of the Mississippi, and some hold more than one plane. This airport creates hundreds of jobs for our town and sales and property taxes as well.

Actually 250 planes are based at Erie with thousands more visiting flights. These visiting planes bring their money to our town to create over 160 full time jobs and support our restaurants and businesses. Many successful businesses are located at the airport and a world class museum as well. The economic impact to the area is huge to the tune of over $12M per year and it will climb much higher. The airport will support the health of the new hotel that we should soon have in Erie. In addition, many angel flights and medivac flights take place from Erie. Last year, over 280 medical flights saving many lives.
