What do you mean?
You mean iTunes will not let you update if you do not preserve baseband?

I'm on 3G and I would like to unlock it in a month, currently I don't need unlock.
This is why I ask if I can upgrade it now to 4.2.1 and then in 1 month I can JB and unlock.

I guess lots of us are in the same boat.
But need just simple information from Dev-Team.
If you plan to JB and unlock in near future, is it safe to upgrade to 4.2.1 via iTunes with original firmware.
I bet more than a half people inhere would like to know that.

Besides this small remark, respects and gratitude for all the hard work ;)

Let me try asking again, this time precise question.
Is it safe to upgrade to original firmware 4.2.1 offered by Apple using iTunes if someone wishes to JB and unlock later?

Yep, it's clear how to jb and unlock with PT, but it is not clear is it safe to upgrade to 4.2.1 for 3g owners who wish to jb and unlock later.

Is it safe for me to update 3g to 4.2.1?
It's currently on 4.1 and it's locked.
If I update now to 4.2.1 can upgrade baseband later with expecting redsn0w and unlock?

So, it should be safe to upgrade to 4.2.1 at this stage and then update the baseband and use ultrasn0w?
I'm asking this cause my wife's 3G is already at 4.2.1.
Thx in advance for explanation.
