I'm pro-Israel, and I''M for shrinking the military, getting out of the World Policeman business, and eliminating foreign aid completely... Israel included. So am I a closet Jew-hater now too?
I absolutely love Jerry Goldsmith's work... he's my favorite film composer of all time.... but any list that doesn't have John Williams as number one automatically fails. Even though he's not my favorite (2nd), no honest man can deny that Williams nearly single-handedly redefined film composing in his own image. And all for the better. Before Williams, film composers were seen as important parts of the film crew, but essentially just that.... crew. Williams made film composers potential stars in their own right.
I'd also debate half of that list. Where's James Howard? James Horner? Ennio Moricone? Basil Poledouris?
Kind of surprised that Van Zandt would be involved in something like this. He's been a huge lefty all his life.
I'd like to have another look at Elmo Zumwalt's High-Low plan: A few expensive, hyper-capable ships, with hundreds of smaller and cheaper ships to give the fleet numbers. I'd rather have 10 VSTOL carriers in the sub 20K ton range than a single 100K nuclear supercarrier that takes 7 years and $15 billion to build, and cripples the battle group if lost in combat.
The U-2 is a stable, mature platform. Lockheed can make more of them. And it works on a much lower budget than the GoldenHawk ($1 to the previous poster that coined the term!)
The Pentagon, like the rest of us, is going to have to learn to live on a budget. And it's time to start saying "Bye" to defense contractors that see taxpayers as a golden goose.
Precisely. We're doing what Germany did in WWII: produce high tech in low numbers. Our weapons shouldn't be dirt simple, but they should be cheap enough to build in mass quantities. We can't afford to lose a single carrier because they take so long to build.
Depp didn't just mock Republicans, Depp openly mocked the United States in an interview a few years back, about how grateful he was for "getting out" and living in France, and how he'd never raise his kids in the states.
I'm not a defender of Bono's politics, but really, you're going to condemn the man for taking (legal) steps to keep his tax burden low? Seriously? Isn't that one of the things that makes us conservative? If you want to blame someone for US tax dollars going to his charities, don't blame him. All he can do is ask. Blame your government. They're the ones giving.
"Week and feeble minded"
Takes one to, well, you know
"You are all tools in a divide and conquer strategy"
And you're just a tool.
But hey, by all means, let's pay to see movies with this guy in it and fill his ilk's pockets with our cash.
