Eyejot (http://eyejot.com) had a great experience with DEMO and received nice attention from both mainstream and techie-oriented press and blogs. We're still humming along, as you noted, and have had two major feature releases this year and now operate profitably, thanks to our lean infrastructure and robust platform. Less than twelve months ago we turned on our subscription-based services (PRO and PRO Plus) and they've been growing steadily, attracting professional users willing to pay Eyejot between $30 and $100/year. Video mail is still a $0 Billion/year business <g> - but growing (MSFT will announce a video mail product Sept 9!)
Both TechCrunch and DEMO seem like very appealing venues for startups to expose their products and platforms. I just wish they didn't overlap so I could attend both. Seems like having them separated just a bit would be good for the startups too since there will clearly be some press and bloggers that have to make the tough decision as to which event to attend. There's clearly room for both - and others (like Under The Radar).
