tODD, you originally asked, "How will [same-sex marriage] change the way you think about your (assumed) wife? Will you disrespect other's marriages less now?" By moving the point of concern from the issue at hand (same-sex marriage and those in such an arrangement) to one's thoughts and attitudes towards third parties (wife, others), you seem to be implying that one should only criticize something if it has a direct bearing on one's own life. You won't suddenly have thoughts of beating your own wife, will you? Like the bumper sticker says, "Don't like abortion? Don't have one." You may object and say that abuse is involved in one and not the other; nevertheless:
You wanted personal consequences of legalizing same-sex marriage. How about the adopted child who, by design, will be denied his mother or father? Have you considered how anti-discrimination laws would prevent criticism of homosexuality in general? How about the Christian photographer who was fined for declining to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony? A senator from Connecticut said it best just this week: "No individual gets to pick and chose which constitutional right" they will respect. "That's not right.''

I'm not aware of any prominent Republican using the Bible to argue against same-sex marriage. Rather, they're using natural law to find common ground. (GZ1 is right -- STR is a great resource.) It's sad that this McCain strategist seems to imply that Scripture is the primary weapon in our arsenal. It's probably why McCain himself was so inept at articulating his views on social issues.
And tODD, you should know by now that the "how will same-sex marriage affect you personally" line is a red-herring. My neighbor could beat his wife every night without affecting me. (No I'm not comparing same-sex marriage to wife-beating, I'm just illustrating this fallacious way of thinking.) Same-sex "marriage" would continue to erode the culture of marriage and family, which, yes, is already suffering from the high divorce rate.
