At the risk of appearing as a trouble-maker, I'll point to some very important but largely ignored information.

The readers of this article correctly point to some terrible flaws of logic and morality in Lieberman's idea. Some propose to amend it, others to simply scrap it. They miss, however, what is arguably the most important aspect of this bill.

Lieberman, like many members of Congress, several people around Obama, numerous corporate tycoons, is probably an essential psychopath. An essential psychopath is an individual who, through genetic inheritance and therefore no personal responsibility, is absolutely incapable of empathy. (S)he is extremely egocentric and her/his vocation is to be a predator, her/his prey being the human community as a whole.

At a very young age, the essential psychopaths learns the hard way that acting per her/his nature elicits reproach and punishment. (S)he ends up living a life of lies, pretending to act like a psychologically normal person. (S)he puts up a so-called "Cleckley mask" of normality. However, behind the Cleckley mask, the essential psychopath may build thoughts of frustration and dreams of revenge against her/his perceived oppression by the society of normal people.

Essential psychopaths--not unlike gays and lesbians--develop ways to recognize and identify each other under the radar of normal people. This allows them to secretly band together. In the proper social climate--typically a high level of collective hysteria like what we witness nowadays in the USA--some of them may be able to climb to positions of high power. Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Lieberman are prime examples.

Every time Lieberman comes up with a nutty idea, he is actually dropping on purpose his Cleckley mask. He broadcasts the signal to all essential psychopaths that he is one of them, that he has power, and that if they support and join him they may be able to fulfill their dream.

The dream of Lieberman and his ilk is to flush normal people away from any position of power. The end result is a Soviet-like system, in which all power resides in the hands of essential psychopaths and other people with other genetic predispositions against empathy. They rule over the 80% or so of normal people. The rest compose some "bourgeoisie," made with people who have moderate dispositions against empathy, often due to some harsh childhood, birth complications, of pre-birth problems.

When enough normal people are aware of the prevalence of psychopathy among the powerful and identifies Cleckley masks, the human community will make a big leap into a much brighter future.

Love,
