Just remember that it's a$$holes like these who are pushing HARD to eliminate the secret ballot!!! NO CARD CHECK!!!!!
My friend, it's not what the Conservatives will do as much as it is what conservatives will NOT do. A true Conservative will NOT try to placate the populace with promises to fix every ill, mend every slight and give feck to the feckless. As the saying goes, sometimes less is more. What the US needs right now is to build wealth - NOT print money. Money as it is used today is basically only a paper promise. Wealth is (among other things) the very certain confidence that the promise printed on that paper will be able to be exchanged at face value or greater for goods and services in the future. Today, due to insane government spending, people with money are afraid that the flood of freshly printed notes will dilute their wealth. As a result this puts capital formation under severe strain. Without capital, the economy enters a stagnation and jobs are far and few between.
So your class assignment will be to identify Conservative candidates running in the mid-terms. Once elected, get involved and hold their feet to the fire! Your neighbor want to send his kid to college - great! Let him pay for it! Some welfare queen doesn't like the basic cable she's getting - tell her to get a job! A politician in a $2,000 suit and hair plugs tells you that he understands your problem better than you - tell'em to get the f&gg out of here! Soon not only will you enjoy more material wealth, but you'll feel better about yourself and your country as well!
So welcome to the world of Conservatism! In this worldview, you are reponsible for you and yours. This burden is offset by the freedom to do whatever is within the law to achieve your needs - no government bueaucracy to weigh you down, with the execption of supporting the common defense, international realtions, a system of courts and a road system - what you keep what you make. You exchange value for value. You keep government influence in your daily choices to a minimum - no social engineering through the tax code - no bubbles created by Fannie and Freddie or Cash for Clunkers.
The second great truth is "With the exception of gifts to friends and loved ones, no sane person willing gives anything of value away for free". People have "quid pro quo" encoded on their DNA. Is it because they are greedy? No, not necessarily, it is just that if we don't look after ourselves who else will? The lefties would have you believe that they can look out for your interests better than you. But as described in numerous posts here, the Feds can't even get your home refi'd without a clusterf@@k - imagine just how dandy it would be to depend on them for health care, food, wee you get the picture.
Well what about "We the People" just taxing the rich and corporations? This is the left's shell and pea game. Rich people and corporations can do something most working peolpe cannot - they can readily pass through increases in their costs. Raise taxes on the widget makers and the price of widgets increases. Control the prices that widgets can be sold for and soon no one will have widgets - this is the reason that the resident of the former USSR couldn't get food, toothpaste, toliet paper...Next is the second Great Truth
So now it seems many of you have suffered mightily under the "largesse" of big government. You are now official students at the University of Hard Knocks. Perhaps you are getting your first inkling that "Obama knew full well he could not save my mortgage - but it sure sounded good during the campaign". If so, that's good. Your next step is a bit of an intellectual leap - but I'll toss it right at you; are you listening, because this is foundational "Government cannot give you something without taking it from someone else". See next: Shell and pea game of the left.
So How could this happen (continued) Simple - Mr. Carter was elected on the crest of a populist movement. Another way of saying this is "people interested personal qualities of Mr. Carter that have nothing to do with actually being the chief executive voted for him". As a result, they got a President whose actions never came close to living up to his rhetoric - when tough problems arose Carter was utterly unprepared for the challenge. This is why it is said "you don't get the government you want, you get the government you deserve".
Well, I see our class of 2010 Freshman are getting a very expensive education! Yes, it's you ol' Professor Consultofactus here for your mid-term lecture. Many of you in the Freshman class didn't pay much attention to politics prior to a few years ago. Oh you may have voted once or twice but be honest - this whole liberal vs conservative thing was all too boring so you went the "cafeteria route" take what you like here, pass-up what you don't like there. Then this guy Obama came along. Your Professors told you - this guy is just a repackaged Jimmy Carter - a President who hailed as "the common man's President" for his first campaign, but LOST EVERY STATE IN THE UNION during his second was CRUSHED receiving less than 10% of the electoral college. You asked "How could this happen?". See next comment :
You people criticizing our President should be ASHAMED! Mr. Obama halted drilling so he could work on the major goal of his Presidency - breaking 80 at Pebble Beach. Do you know how distracting it can be when the "little people" are always yapping at you before you tee-off or when you're lining-up a putt??? Well?? Let me tell you....There is the "Party of No" Republicans always griping "Mr. President! You're bankrupting the country you can't spend trillions we don't have!!!" and then the pesky Bobby Jindal "Mr. President! Mr. President! There are dozen of skimmers from other countries trying to enter the Gulf but the Navy won't let them!!! Please help!!". So unless you want Mr. Obama's first term to end in failure you are just going to have to stop bugging him!
