You're right...a LOT of DV victims simply don't have the sense (yet) to take better measures to help protect themselves. And a lot of them THINK that their controlling abuser will just leave if they only 'remind them' that they're not supposed to have contact....It KIND of sounded to me like she was trying to live her life and he may know that 'she goes to the library on Tuesday' and was there to try to control her again....like I said it sounded KIND of like that.

In the state of Washington, or at least in King County, victims have no influence on whether charges will be filed against the perpetrators and also no influence on what those charges will be. The prosecuting attorney's office makes all those decisions.

"Conviction for unlawful imprisonment carries a standard sentencing range of one to three months in jail". If found guilty, I'd say this is woefully inadequate confinement for the parents. I think the should have to spend the same amount of time locked up as their kids did!
