Can someone tell me why we are still accepting police bail?

24 hours, charge me or release me. And if I'm not charged after that 24 hours (unless the police have a court order allowing them to retain items seized during my arrest I want my all my property back.

Even that 24 hour period is a maximum (assuming they don't invoke terrorist legislation), they must be able to justify it when I sue for wrongful arrest.

Another very good local video from Liverpool BNP.
All I can say is: on the 4th of June vote BNP!

Dear Eric_The_Fish,

Also you said:
'If push comes to shove charges could be brought and later dropped.'

I say:
The police would be on very shaky ground trying to justify a charge (which was later dropped) by saying: 'well we charged him because we thought we might find some evidence later'.

Dear Eric_The_Fish,

You said:
but it is reasonable to allow further time to investigate the matter.

I say:
OK but why does that mean a person needs to be on bail? No good reason (as yet) should mean no reason to restrict a citizens liberty. And that especially (in my view at least) should applies when that person is contesting an election. The press will now hammer this man simply because he is on bail.

PS
I have been arrested twice in my life, both for political activities. But have never been charged with any offence.

Dear Eric_The_Fish,

You said:
'The police have every right to issue bail. If you wish to refuse this, feel free. You can argue your case next morning before the bench'

I say:
No it's not for the accused to defend him or herself, the police must justify their detention of the prisoner. God help any police officer bringing a prisoner to court on charges of refusing police bail.

24 Hours, charge me or release me!

Why are we still accepting police bail?
This is nothing more than a cat and mouse tacit by the Brownie pointers at the top of the police force to ingratiate themselves to their political masters.

Our tactic should be 24 hours charge me or release me. Then a civil case for wrongful detention if they can't justify the whole of those 24 hours. Remember that 24 hours is a maximum time they can hold you without charge (terrorism excepted), but they have to be able to justify every second they hold someone in custody, even within that 24 hour period. If released without charge, or bail, they must return your property unless they get a court order allowing its retention.
