A. He submits a "letter to the editor" which could possibly be run for free. Public could view this as allowing elected official to use us as a pulpit for his own agenda for free. Paying advertisers who have views contrary to elected official would have grounds for complaint of us discriminating.
B. He submits a paid ad as would any other entity wishing to communicate their own agenda. Public could percieve this as elected official 'paying' for endorsement or other favorable treatment as mentioned above.
C. We refuse to run the "letter to the editor" and don't take the ad. Elected official and the public could percieve this as censorship or news filtering, and themselves cite unethical journalism.
If you were us, what would you do?
