I have been a cradle Catholic and the vast majority of priests are good and humble servants of God. There are pedophiles in all faiths. Yes, it is an abomination that the few would prey on the vulnerable. Christ didn't stop his church because of Judas. The only perfect Church is the Church Triumphant in heaven. We are all sinners. Our society is addicted to porn, has no concept of right and wrong, women dress like prostitutes when they come to church, our sex obsessed society, and we shake our heads when we don't have holy priests. They are a reflection of the moral corruption of our society.
Funny, never met an atheist on their death bed and when I have, they died a horrible death. They did not die peacefully as those who believe. So if there is no God, why then the despair and utter fear of death?
Is that why it has lasted over 2000 years despite despot rulers and governments trying to suppress it? Christ promised it would prevail and despite hate from people like you it has and will!
No excuse for what some bad priests have done but stop the baloney. All denominations including teachers have this problem. you never hear the press go after the teachers but love to publish the church scandals. So it is NOT just a Catholic problem. It always amazes me that this is brought up to justify an evil. They are BOTH evil.
Many people can pay for a cell phone or get government assistance. Even the poor in this country are better off than in the third world. No comparison to the two. Who will come to the rescue when the baby is killed in the womb? NO ONE

People want 'choice" but won't see the crosses or look at the pictures of fully formed babies dead with the spinal chord cut so they stop breathing, or the injection of potassium into the heart to stop it or the suctioning of the brain. Why if this is so good, can't people look at a cross or pictures of what it looks like. This is the new holocaust no one wants to acknowledge. Wonder why there is no tax base? 60 million citizens have been sacrificed to the god of greed

By the way embryonic stem cell research hasn't produced the results that you all touted as the reason for destruction of human life. There are plenty of stem cells from placentas which are more rich in stem cells. You all use that as a reason for destroying life. Yes cancer patients have access to medical marijuana and it works great to help them with cachexia
We as Catholics just want to be left alone without government interference. By the way the Catholic Church started most of the hospital systems in the US and Europe. Elizabeth Seton, Catherine Drexel. The Catholic Hospitals are by far the biggest contributor to indigent care.

"We respect all religions" unless it is the Catholic Church. Then we have a government mandate that dictates what they are to believe and do" because we don't respect their beliefs and hey my rights are more important than theirs anyway
