14 years ago @ Big Journalism - Actually a libel. Slander is a falsehood you speak. Libel is a lie you write.

Libel suits are hard to win in this country if the plaintiff is a "public figure", whatever that means. Now that the cat is out of the bag Random House is unlikely to publish this trash in the UK because the libel laws there are fair to everyone, including "public figures". Not only that, in UK courts the loser pays the winner's legal fees and costs, which could push Random House to the brink.

Possible, but is it likely?

Imagine a big budget 3D epic movie with high production values and ground-breaking special effects about the Rape of Naking which takes the position that the whole bloody affair was both necessary and laudable as an indispensable part of the establishment of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Now imagine this movie greeted largely with approval by Chinese cinema goers. Unlikely, is it not?
