Dancing, Only about 1/3 of the homeless have mental health issues, and only about 1/3 have drug or alcohol issues. Some have both. That said, cities and states (Utah) that are employing a housing first response - are the ones reporting the best results in reducing homelessness. Once people have a roof over their heads, it's far easier to address their other issues. It's not an either/or. It's not either providing housing *or* address their other "underlying root causes" - it's doing both. Example: http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865614540/Prog...

Nice list. But I'd say all of those are very spiritual things.

And I'm sure slaves prefer to have roofs over their heads and 3 meals a day too. : P

But again, Costco pays their employees a living wage. If that big box store can do it, so can (and should) Walmart.

If Walmart paid an increased minimum wage of $12.50/hr, and they passed ALL the additional costs on to consumers, Walmart prices would only increase 1.1%.

That's only 46 cents per shopping trip on average. Why don't they do it just to improve their image? Bad press is better than no press?

Delburt, FYI, Costco is a big-box store that pays their employees a living wage. if they can do it, so can Walmart -- but they aren't. Here's what they're doing instead. http://www.alternet.org/walmart-cut-employee-hour...

I've helped shovel out mud in 4 people's basements. Activism and volunteerism aren't either/or bub.
