Surveillance can be both good and bad. When I was an intern in the Public defender's office we had client who had been severely beaten police unconvincingly claimed that their dash cams weren't working

It bothers me that this person who is clearly not a terrorist is being repeatedly harrowed and unable to clear his name. But what bothers me more is that our 'no fly list system' and the people implementing are clearly inept.

Although this post is some weeks later, it turns out that OBL's was tracked down in part from information obtained by Kaleid Sheik Mohmmed who was waterboarded in Guantanamo Bay. Although I still believe water boarding in principle, this adds a new layer to the debate.

While we often talk about the benefits of technology, I think a clear cost is that we make ourselves more vulnerable by becoming so dependent on it.

I agree, but I think it might be useful. If the terrorists are communicating via the internet at least we can track their communications.

I agree that its unlikely, but why take a chance with something as sensitive as an election? It seems like it would be fairly simple to safeguard against such things.

I agree. And it concerns me that these machines are maintained and operated by people poll workers are often really, really old.
