It should also be kept in mind that its target audience is teenage girls. If it seems a little beneath you, you should stop being so stuck up and go read one of the "big kid's" books.

The writing itself is not bleak. Merely the imagery that Tong paints. I don't believe in comparing one book to another. Unless one is an appropriation of the other. It it DEFINITELY worth the read. You might also enjoy "Wonderful Fool" by Shusaku Endo. Thanks for your comment!

Indeed it does, Aimee. You'd be surprised at how many words and phrases that we still use today have fascinating origins and histories just like this one! This is what Etymologists study for a living. You can find more interesting word origins like this one in the posts entitled "word up"
