Mitchum's performance as Eddie Coyle, while not one of his better known, certainly qualifies as one of his best. I'd seen this movie years ago on cable somewhere, loved it, but couldn't find it anywhere on home video until the terrific Criterion DVD release a couple months ago. And what a supporting cast: Peter Boyle, Richard Jordan, Steven Keats, Alex Rocco, Joe Santos, Mitchell Ryan, Jack Kehoe... Not a metrosexual in the bunch. Ah, the good old days, when men, not boys, were cast as men...
