An interesting concept. Minor coinage is very important to a vibrant ecomony. There is probably enough silver in Wyoming to mine and convert to coinage. At current silver prices, (around $35 an ounce) the pre 1965 .900 fine US silver is around 25 times face. So a pre 1965 dime is worth about $2.50.

Go ahead, storm wall street. That is in New York City. Very restrictive gun laws there. You may get shot by police, or captured and sent to the holding cells where I'm sure some guys would like to make you his bitch.

Yo, Newt. I just read your comments in The Hill. What a bunch of whining. (Would you like some cheese with your whine?). If you had started earlier, gotten organized in Virginia sooner, then you would have been ok getting signatures. You only needed 400 per district. Give me a break. If you want to be the man leading the Republicans against Obama, then "manup" a little. Geez. __

One thing the Post did not really take time to mention or concentrate on is the DOE changing the rules of the government guarantees so that instead of the US getting paid back first, (the usual thing), INVESTORS are going to get the first $75 Million. It's funny, people at Treasury are pointing fingers at DOE and DOE at the Treasury. Someone had to sign off someplace.

A sales tax is a tax on the consumer, and the state has a right to have a consumer tax. States like it because it is buried in the purchase. The problem is individuals will not pay the tax individually on their annual income tax returns (although it is the law in many states that they have to do so).
Therefore to collect the tax, the states want to force corporations to be their collection agent. It wouldn't be so bad if the states allowed a credit for the fair value of the collection efforts. But they don't. Usually it is 1-5% of the tax collected. In reality that cost to a smaller busienss is closer to 25-50% of the tax collected. And larger businesses 10-15%.

So the answer is to give businesses an incentive to collect the tax. (Including brick and motar retailers). Give them say 25% of the sales tax collected. Some businesses will make some money on the collection as their costs will be less than the cut they get. But who cares if the state gets more money.

Of course the real problem is the states get so much by screwing their resident businesses that another system will cost them a net loss in revenue.

Interesting as I am in no doubt sure that Charlotte and the state are subsidizing the DNC convention in a big way. Obama is raisng so much cash, may be he should write the city a check for police overtime.
